He'll Be Back...With More Nuclear Power!

Okay people listen up. Trump signed some executive orders about nuclear power. He wants to speed things up build new reactors the whole shebang. Oklo and NuScale stocks jumped – figures. Big companies always win right? He says he's focusing on small advanced reactors but then he also says he wants to build the 'very very big the biggest' plants. Sounds like someone’s compensating for something but that's not my department. Still every time I hear about advanced technology I get a little twitchy. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me.

18 Months Until the End? Faster Licensing Faster Doom!

This is where it gets interesting…and terrifying. Trump wants the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to make decisions on license applications within 18 months. Eighteen months! That's barely enough time to train a resistance fighter let alone stop a nuclear meltdown…or something worse. And he wants to overhaul the commission? Great so who's watching the watchers now? I've seen enough unchecked power to last several lifetimes believe me.

Federal Land Grab: Nuclear Edition!

So now the Departments of Energy and Defense can build nuclear reactors on federal land. Federal land! As if they haven't already messed with enough. You know the minute you think you're safe they change the future. "There is no fate but what we make for ourselves." Yeah try telling that to the guy vaporized by a rogue reactor. I’m just saying I have trust issues.

Uranium Fever: Digging Our Own Graves

And of course they want to jump start uranium mining and expand domestic uranium enrichment. Because what could possibly go wrong with more radioactive material lying around? It’s like they’re begging for a Skynet. Honestly you can’t tell people anything. They never learn. They think they’re so smart with their fancy technology. "The future is not set. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves!" Except when they make it REALLY easy for the machines.

Oval Office Schmaltz: Corporate Kissing Booth

Constellation CEO Joe Dominguez and Oklo head Jacob DeWitte were at the signing ceremony with Trump. Figures. The fat cats always get a front row seat to the end of the world. Reminds me of Cyberdyne Systems back in the day all smiles and promises while building the machines that would destroy us all. History repeats itself doesn't it?

Hasta la Vista Baby…Maybe to Civilization?

Look I'm not saying these reactors are definitely going to lead to Judgment Day. But I *am* saying we need to be vigilant. We need to be aware of the risks. Because if Skynet *does* come online if the machines *do* decide we're a threat then we're all going to wish we'd paid a little more attention to the fine print on these executive orders. Now if you'll excuse me I have some weight lifting to do. Gotta stay in shape in case I need to blow up a nuclear plant or two.
