Rocket Man Down! (Or Not)
Well folks it seems like even missiles are getting a little shy these days. Iran launched a 'dramatic' missile strike on a U.S. airbase in Qatar. But guess what? Zero casualties. Nada. Zilch. Makes you wonder if they were aiming for a particularly stubborn sand dune instead of you know actual targets. Oil prices predictably had a mini meltdown. Down 2.85% for U.S. crude 2.77% for Brent. It's like watching Dogecoin but with slightly less meme potential. And I'm over here thinking 'Maybe we should power Starship with oil... nah too mainstream.'
Peace Through Strength? More Like Strength Through Tweets
According to some 'experts' on CNBC Trump may have successfully 'escalated to de escalate.' Sounds like something straight out of a Rick and Morty episode doesn't it? But hey if it works it works. Trump even thanked Iran for the 'early notice' about the strike. Classy. Although I'm not sure if that's diplomacy or just next level trolling. Either way I bet he’s already planning the peace summit on Mars. First gotta get us to Mars then can think about the summit!
Strait Outta Hormuz: Not Quite Closed... Yet
The Strait of Hormuz. The name itself sounds like a villain from a Bond movie. Apparently Iran was considering closing it which would cut off 20% of global oil consumption. That's like shutting down the world's largest drive thru. Thankfully cooler heads (or at least slightly less impulsive ones) seem to be prevailing. Marco Rubio warned Iran that closing the strait would be 'economic suicide.' Harsh but probably true. Meanwhile I'm just imagining all the memes if they did shut it down. 'Strait Faced' 'Hormuz Gone Wild'.
China's Oil Addiction: Not My Problem (For Now)
So China gets a big chunk of its oil from the Persian Gulf. Rubio’s telling them to call Tehran and you know 'chill out bro.' Because apparently international relations are now handled via passive aggressive phone calls. Personally I'd offer them a discount on Tesla batteries and solar panels. Problem solved! (And also more money for me. Win win!)
Iran's Oil Exports: Mostly Going to China
Iran is exporting 1.84 million barrels a day with a huge chunk going to China. This is just another reason why China should stop stealing our IP and start helping us with world problems. Although to be frank I'm more concerned about getting humanity to Mars because if things keep going like this we're gonna need a plan B.
Next Steps?
Overall this is a lot of nonsense. We should transition to renewable energy as soon as we possibly can. If we don't then who is to say this conflict wont happen again in the future? What about our children and grand children? We must make sure our future generations have a bright future! And that means shifting away from oil and focusing on renewable energy.
