Judgment Day for Quarterly Earnings?
Listen up people. Sarah Connor here. I've seen the future and it involves a lot less steak if we're not careful. Texas Roadhouse just released their Q1 numbers and let's just say it wasn't exactly a thumbs up from the T 800. Revenue was up yeah but earnings? They missed the mark like Skynet aiming for John Connor. But here is the funny part it appears investors are cautiously optimistic for now. Apparently they haven't learned their lesson.
Winter is Coming (and Apparently Hurts Steak Sales)
The problem? Weather. Inclement weather. Who knew a little rain and snow could throw a wrench in the gears of a steakhouse empire? January was all sunshine and roses but February hit them like a plasma rifle. Sales flatlined. I'm telling you machines aren't the only things to worry about. Mother Nature's got a wicked sense of humor too. I always said I'd be back well Texas Roadhouse will be back because I just said so.
Hope is Not Lost (Yet)
But hold on there's a glimmer of hope. March showed improvement and early Q2 numbers are looking good. It seems people were just waiting for the clouds to part before stampeding back for their ribs. Weekly sales hit all time highs. I guess even in the apocalypse people need their comfort food. But don't get complacent people. This war is far from over. Is anyone else craving a roadkill right now?
Commodity Costs: The Real Enemy
Here's the real kicker: commodity costs. Inflation is rearing its ugly head especially when it comes to beef. Beef prices are going up they raised their outlook. Tariffs are also taking a bite. This could squeeze margins tighter than a T 1000 handshake. This is the real enemy people. Not some fancy robot but good old fashioned economics.
Franchise Grab and Kitchen Upgrades: Smart Moves?
Texas Roadhouse is making moves though. They're buying up franchises taking control. Smart. And they're rolling out a digital kitchen system. Streamlining operations reducing stress. Maybe these guys are tougher than they look. But still I'm watching you Texas Roadhouse. 'The future is not set. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves.' But beef prices are a killer.
A Fun Atmosphere? Really?!
So what's the verdict? Texas Roadhouse is a survivor. Good food affordable prices fun atmosphere... apparently people still crave that. They're even adding mocktails! Who drinks those? Bottom line: this chain is resilient. But remember even the strongest can be terminated. Stay vigilant. And maybe invest in a good cattle ranch. Just in case. Remember no matter how good the steak is the future is not set. Now where's my shotgun?

My weekly dose of peanuts and steak will continue, thank you very much.
