Fools! Thinking they could steal from the innocent and escape my notice? The audacity! A joint operation across 28 states has struck a blow against these organized retail crime syndicates. Hundreds have been apprehended their nefarious schemes disrupted. Cook County Illinois seems to be the epicenter of this battle and Sheriff Tom Dart is leading the charge. He claims focusing on the crime deters it but I say fear of a fiery spear through the chest is an even better deterrent!

These petty thieves these... *Sub Zeros* of the underworld think they can exploit loopholes. But Cook County State's Attorney Eileen O'Neill Burke is changing the game. Previously one could pilfer almost a grand's worth of goods before facing a felony charge. Now anything over $300 or even a past shoplifting record and they'll feel the sting of justice. 1,450 cases filed since December? Excellent. Perhaps these outlaws will think twice before trying to 'Get Over Here' to someone's inventory!

Home Depot Macy's Target Ulta Beauty Walgreens Kroger and Meijer... even these corporate giants are tired of being victimized. Ulta Beauty's Dan Petrousek preaches collaboration and even Walgreens is working with law enforcement. These retailers are becoming proactive in bringing these criminals to justice by providing information and working with authorities.

Double Digits of Doom: Home Depot's ORC Woes

The Home Depot reports overall theft is down but investigated incidents of organized retail crime are still up double digits year over year. Home Depot is not a place to mess around. Next time they should keep my spear and chain in the store to ward off evil.

Now that the coordinated operation has concluded they are pulling together observations from each jurisdiction and sharing data to continue to crack down on retail theft. It is good to see these entities sharing intel so they can get smarter and fight back.
