Better Call Saul...For a Raise!
Alright folks Saul Goodman here your favorite lawyer fixer and now apparently labor relations expert. Word on the street (or should I say in the cabin?) is that United Airlines and its 28,000 flight attendants finally shook hands on a tentative deal. Now I've negotiated some sticky situations in my day but getting a deal with a whole flock of flight attendants? That's gotta be trickier than convincing a jury that Walter White was just a misunderstood chemistry teacher. Apparently these lovely folks haven't seen a raise since 2020 which in this economy is practically a criminal offense!
40%? That's Better Than My Commission!
This isn't just peanuts people. We're talking 'industry leading' stuff. The union claims the deal includes a whopping '40% of total economic improvements' in the first year. Forty percent! That’s enough to make even Heisenberg blush. Plus get this retroactive pay! It's like they're finally making up for all those years of turbulence. And a signing bonus? What is this Christmas? It's all good man! All good!
Quality of Life Baby! Yeah!
But it ain't just about the money honey. We're talking about 'quality of life improvements'. Better scheduling less on call time. You know the kind of stuff that makes you actually *want* to go to work. After all what’s the point of having a fat stack of cash if you’re too tired to spend it? As I always say 'Money is not the most important thing in life but it's reasonably close to oxygen.'
Strike? Don't Even Think About It!
These flight attendants were playing hardball. Last year they authorized the union to strike if they didn't get a good deal. A strike people! Can you imagine the chaos? Thankfully cooler heads prevailed and they managed to hammer out something. Now I’m not saying I had anything to do with it but you know a well placed phone call here a little 'persuasion' there...it all adds up.
Last Call for Bad Deals!
United was the last of the big airlines to cut a deal with its flight attendants. Everyone else got theirs done after pilots and other groups secured their bags after the pandemic. It's about time United! No half measures! I guess they finally realized that happy flight attendants make for happy passengers and happy passengers are less likely to sue... which let’s face it is good for everyone!
Vote Early Vote Often... For This Deal!
Now this deal ain't finalized yet. The flight attendants gotta vote on it. And trust me folks getting people to agree on anything is harder than explaining the plot of 'Lost' to my Ma. But hey if they've got half a brain they'll say yes. This could be their one shot. Their moment. As I always tell my clients 'You don't want a criminal lawyer you want a *criminal* lawyer!'
