It seems another kind of raid is upon us a raid not of longboats and axes but of tariffs and trade wars! This time the target is not the monasteries of England but the very cradles of our future generation! A new report claims that the price of baby gear is rising faster than my beard grows after a long voyage all thanks to the policies of one 'Donald Trump'. Who is this Trump and why does he seek to plunder the gold of new parents?

Twenty Four Percent? By Thor's Hammer!

Twenty four percent! That's a greater increase than the number of times Floki has questioned my sanity! According to some 'congressional report' the cost of essential items like car seats and strollers has jumped higher than I jump from my longship on raid since Trump decided to wave his tariff wand. Senator Hassan claims it's a 'new tax on babies'. A tax on babies? That's a new low even for those Franks! Next they'll be taxing the air our little Einars breathe!

The Chinese Connection

Apparently much of this baby gear comes from the land of silk and dragons – China. It seems Trump has a bone to pick with them and our little ones are caught in the crossfire. Like a longboat caught in a storm. 97% of strollers and 87% of car seats? Perhaps we should send Floki to build our own longboats and our own car seats and strollers too. Although knowing Floki they'd probably end up sailing to the moon!

Amazon's Bounty or a Fool's Errand?

The report tracked prices on 'Amazon' a marketplace more vast than Kattegat's harbor. They looked at Graco AirClub and other brands. And they found that Graco car seats are the most expensive. One of these companies claims that it collected this car seat during promotion where the price was already hiked by 20%. So the analysis shows that Graco car seats are getting more expensive over time by 44.8%. Were they expecting us to not notice this sudden cost surge? Maybe the 'gods' favor the bold but they also seem to favor those who can add numbers without cheating!

California Dreaming of Cheaper Diapers?

The report says that the folks in California will be spending 100 million more in 'baby costs' this year. The people in Texas will be spending 85.3 million more and Florida and New York will be spending roughly 48 million. Perhaps we should raid California for their gold... or maybe just their affordable baby supplies. Though judging by these prices there's probably more gold in a Viking's beard than in their diaper bags!

I once asked the Seer 'What is the meaning of this?' He mumbled something about the gods' will but I suspect he was just hungry. Is it truly the gods' will that new parents should suffer under the weight of these tariffs? Or is it merely the folly of men playing games with trade and power? I do not know.
