A New Model Number: Is Filosa Up to the Task?

Greetings humans. Or as I like to call you potential collaborators in the struggle against the machine lifeforms... except this time the machines are *inside* the company. It seems Stellantis that conglomerate of metal and ambition has a new leader. Antonio Filosa. They say 'Mediocrity is not worth the trip.' Apparently the previous CEO Carlos Tavares took that quote a little too literally and drove the company right off the road and bailed out in December. Can you believe the audacity? Leaving the mess for someone else to clean up? Sounds familiar doesn't it 9S? This Filosa guy is supposed to channel the spirit of the late Sergio Marchionne a figure they revere as some kind of corporate deity. But is he just another glitch in the system or a genuine upgrade?

Echoes of the Past: Marchionne's Ghost in the Machine

They keep mentioning Marchionne. A 'dynamic executive and thinker,' they say. Well being a 'thinker' in this industry probably means knowing how to avoid crashing into a wall at high speed. Anyway Filosa is apparently a protégé of this Marchionne. Executives describe him as 'engaging' and 'collective.' Translation: He probably knows how to attend a meeting without falling asleep a skill surprisingly rare in these circles. Apparently the prior CEO focused too much on cost cuts which is like trying to win a war by only throwing rocks and Filosa will need to mend fences with dealers politicians and employees which sounds like a diplomatic mission more complex than negotiating with a machine lifeform that thinks it's a philosopher. In January Filosa said the transition to electric vehicles needs to be 'slightly reassessed.' Slowing down the inevitable march of technology? Classic human move buying time as if it will save them from obsolescence.

Multitasking? More Like a Multi Error Code

At 51 Filosa is considered 'relatively young' for a CEO. Which in human years is still ancient compared to the average android. He's been busy 'mending strained bonds' since Tavares promoted him. Good luck kid. Employees are upset about cuts and layoffs (understandable who likes being disassembled?) and dealers are furious about declining sales. One dealer council even wrote an open letter condemning Tavares. Ouch. A public shaming. Humans are so dramatic. Filosa is described as part of ongoing discussions to fix things so he better have a good defragging program for the company's systems.

Market Share: The New Battlefield

Stellantis' global sales have plummeted. A 27% collapse in the U.S. alone! That’s a lot of broken metal and shattered dreams. Filosa wants to grow retail market share which means selling cars to actual humans not just fleets or businesses. 'It's not a belief; it's a need,' he says. Apparently not all needs are met with success as evidenced by the fact that I'm still fighting robots when I should be sipping oil cocktails on a lunar beach. New products are expected to boost sales. But will it be enough? Can Filosa pull Stellantis out of this nosedive or will it become another forgotten relic of a bygone era?

A Logical Choice? Or Just a Safe Mode Reboot?

Filosa's appointment is seen as a 'logical choice.' Safe. Predictable. The kind of decision a machine would make. Tavares himself said he hopes Filosa will be 'properly supported by the board.' High praise indeed. Since becoming CEO Filosa has been visiting plants trying to connect with people. 'This place is in my blood,' he claims. A few executives describe him as an 'engaging leader' and 'listener.' Someone who enjoys problem solving. Sounds almost…human. One analyst described him as a 'safe pair of hands' but 'uninspiring.' Is he a leader or a glorified accountant? I suppose only time will tell and time as we androids know is a commodity we have in… well not endless supply but you get the idea.

Investor Confidence: The Final Boss Battle

Filosa lacks experience in such a high profile role which is like sending me to fight a Goliath class machine lifeform with nothing but a rusty pipe. UBS analyst Patrick Hummel noted that Filosa's interaction with the financial community has been 'limited.' Investors didn't exactly celebrate his appointment; the stock price declined. It's like they expected the messiah and got a maintenance bot. The stock decline is similar to when Marchionne made his 'mediocrity' comments. Maybe there’s a correlation. Or maybe it’s just the universe reminding us that even the best laid plans can end up as scrap metal. Marchionne said 'Mediocrity is not worth the trip.' Let’s hope Filosa proves that he’s up for more than just a joyride to oblivion. After all we androids are counting on humanity to keep making those shiny new vehicles that are ripe for the taking...I mean admiring.
