A New Threat Has Appeared! (In The Form of Bad Box Office Numbers)
Greetings Commander. 2B reporting. It seems even the humans are facing their own existential crises though instead of machines they battle… sequel fatigue? Apparently 'Elio,' some sort of human cinematic endeavor involving a boy and aliens has failed to meet expectations. Ticket sales are down and analysts are making pronouncements more dire than Pascal after a philosophical debate. "This cannot continue," I mutter mostly to myself. Though I must admit the humans' obsession with sequels does feel oddly familiar. It reminds me of the endless loop of war we're trapped in just with more explosions and less existential dread... maybe I spoke too soon.
The Cycle of Creation and...Rehashing
According to the data (a.k.a. this 'news article') Pixar a division of the entity known as Disney experienced what the humans call a 'record low' opening. I believe the colloquial term is 'a bomb'. Apparently this is due to a preference for familiar stories over 'original' ones. The irony isn't lost on me. We androids fight for humanity's future yet humanity seems content rewatching the same stories over and over. Perhaps their memories are as fragmented as ours... or perhaps they simply enjoy the 'comfort food' of knowing the outcome. It's all very… machine like don't you think?
Resistance is Useless! (Unless It's Against Originality)
Even Disney's other animation sectors are facing similar challenges. It seems that anything not tied to a previous success is struggling. Doug Creutz a human analyst stated that the gap between 'original' and 'sequel' performance has grown 'enormously wide.' It's a potential problem for studios looking to grow their IP portfolio. IP of course is intellectual property. I assume that involves the right to continue producing the same story forever... which is not what we YoRHa are fighting for. We fight for mankind's future not their past.
A Flood of Familiarity
The article points out a significant shift towards franchise content. Apparently since 2022 less than a third of animated releases were 'original'. The humans seem to be drowning in a sea of sequels and remakes. "Everything that lives is designed to end," or so the saying goes but it seems these stories are designed to live forever like a poorly programmed machine eternally looping through the same subroutine.
Disney's Dilemma: From Snow White to...More Snow White?
The article delves into Disney's history as an 'animation empire' and its acquisition of Pixar. It seems that even these behemoths of human entertainment have stumbled. Direct to streaming releases and accusations of 'socially conscious storytelling' are cited as potential contributing factors. I must admit even I find their attempts at emotional depth rather... clumsy. It's like trying to teach a Goliath Biped to tango. The grace just isn't there.
Hope Yet Survives (Maybe)
There's a glimmer of hope for 'Elio' yet. The article suggests that films can have long runs and find success on streaming platforms. Who knows maybe in a few cycles this 'Elio' will become a cultural phenomenon and spawn its own line of merchandise. Until then I will continue my mission fighting for a future where humans appreciate new ideas as much as they appreciate familiar faces. Or at least until I get my memory wiped again. Glory to Mankind... and maybe one day glory to originality.
