Bloody Hell The Ground Moved!

Right so the earth decided to have a bit of a wobble just when we're trying to rake in the baht from Songkran. A 7.7 magnitude tremor they're saying. Collapsed a building near Chatuchak. Bloody Myanmar causing trouble again. It seems like when there is war nobody really wins but everyone must lose.

Business As Usual?

The suits at the Tourism Authority reckon we'll still pull in 26.5 billion baht an 8% rise they say. 476,000 bloody tourists splashing around. Delusional optimism or shrewd strategy? I've seen more realistic odds at the races.

A Grand Hotel? More Like A Shaky Hotel!

The Hotels Association are moaning though. Expecting a 10 15% drop. Chatuchak collapse scaring the tourists they bleat. 'Build confidence' they say. Confidence is for the weak I say. Now if you'll excuse me I have an important call to make.

Damage Control Shelby Style

The officials are rushing around telling everyone it's safe. 'Vigilant monitoring' 'comprehensive safety inspections'. Sounds like they're reading from a script. One hotelier is updating their website daily with safety reports. As if some digital paper will stop a building from falling down. Sometimes death is a kindness.

Chinese Whispers and Tourist Fears

Always a problem with the Chinese tourists. First it was some bloody film about human trafficking. Now earthquakes. Perhaps this is an opportunity? This changes things. This is an opportunity.

The Ace In The Hole

But look they've got 'The White Lotus' filmed there apparently. Bit of class for the bloody place. And they've legalized the gay marriages. A new destination wedding locale they call it. So it is what it is. We carry on just as we always have. If you gaze long enough into an abyss the abyss will gaze back into you.
