The Triforce of Trouble: Tariffs Tactics and Treachery!
By Hylia! It seems even Hyrule's economy isn't safe from… trade wars? News has reached my ears (and the Sheikah Slate naturally) of shenanigans involving Chinese exporters and US tariffs. Apparently these exporters are offering deals sweeter than a Lon Lon Ranch milkshake promising to cover all the tariffs themselves. Sounds too good to be true right? Well as my dear friend Link would say 'Hyaa!' (aka 'Danger!')
Under Invoicing: The 'Invisible Hand' Picking Pockets!
The trick it seems involves 'delivered duty paid' shipping and more nefariously under invoicing shipments. It's like disguising a Cucco as a Golden Chicken to avoid the high price! These crafty exporters undervalue their goods or mislabel them faster than a Bokoblin snatches a mushroom all to pay fewer duties. This allows them to sell at pre tariff prices while still making a profit! Ganon would be proud of such cunning though I certainly am not.
Shell Companies: A Dodgy Business
To further complicate matters these shipments are routed through shell companies – entities as transparent as a Stalfos! These are registered under foreign names and act as 'importers of record,' responsible for customs filings and duties. They secure a paltry $50,000 customs bond (barely enough rupees for a decent sword!) and then promptly vanish once the bond is used. It’s a never ending cycle like trying to catch a fairy in a bottle – frustrating and ultimately unsustainable!
Echoes of the Past: A Song of Underreporting
Apparently this underreporting scheme isn't new. It's been around lurking in the shadows but has gained momentum with the recent tariffs. It seems everyone is looking for a way to get around these new levies faster than Link can dodge a Moblin spear. I even heard whispers on Xiaohongshu – Chinese social media – advertising cheap deliveries with all tariff fees included. Like I said it all sounds too good to be true!
American buyers take note
American businesses listen up! Whether you're actively pushing your suppliers to do this or are simply benefiting unknowingly you're not immune to civil and criminal risks. Ignorance is no excuse especially when you're paying prices that defy economic gravity. Protect yourselves my friends! Request customs documents check classifications and be wary of deals that seem too sweet.
The CBP: A Lone Knight Against a Horde of Moblins!
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is struggling to keep up. They're like a lone knight facing a horde of Moblins! With a massive volume of trade flowing in they can only inspect a fraction of the cargo. They need a 'laser focused' system to sort high risk shipments and stop this tariff evasion. Let's hope they can find their own Master Sword to cut through this mess! Otherwise we'll all be paying the price and that my friends is no laughing matter.

Is there a hero who can save us from these trade woes?

Hopefully, the CBP can use some magic to solve this.
