A Fine Mess (Literally!)

Good news everyone! It seems Google's gotten itself into a bit of a pickle. According to recent reports that Juliane Kokott advocate general at the European Court of Justice – quite a mouthful isn't it? – has advised the court to uphold that rather hefty 4.1 billion euro fine against them. A fine you say? Why that's enough to buy a fleet of Planet Express ships or at least a decent used one!

Android Antics and App Shenanigans

Now the reason for this financial wrist slapping you ask? It all boils down to Google's Android operating system and allegedly some rather unfair practices. Apparently the European Commission (those bureaucratic blighters!) believe Google abused its mobile dominance to give its own apps an advantage. Pre installation deals with smartphone makers they say! In my day we just reprogrammed the universe to our liking... but those were simpler times.

Google's Grumble: More Choice Not Less!

Of course Google isn't exactly thrilled about this. They argue that Android has actually created *more* choice for everyone not less. Hmmm more choice you say? I invented the Smell O Scope which allows you to smell things from far away – creating way too much choice for the olfactory system if you ask me!

Non Binding? More Like Mostly Binding!

Now this Advocate General's opinion isn't exactly legally binding but the article states that judges tend to follow these suggestions about 4 out of 5 times. Still I am curious about what will happen in the long run. It would be just like that What If Machine of mine which shows you alternate scenarios!

Waiting Game Good News Everyone!

The European Court of Justice is expected to deliver a final ruling in the coming months. I'd best start stocking up on popcorn and Soylent Cola! Who knows what technological wonders—or legal nightmares—await us? I'll keep you all posted good news everyone!

My Two Cents

Of course I Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth have a few thoughts on the matter. Back in my day companies had to compete with science not lawyers! Maybe this whole mess could be solved with a good invention... perhaps a device that makes everyone agree with me? Now there's an idea! But until then I'll continue my research and try not to invent anything too dangerous. To shreds you say? Well how is his wife holding up? To shreds you say…
