OMG so Tesla's robotaxis are finally like a thing! They launched in Austin Texas this weekend and everyone's freaking out. Elon posted on X (I still call it Twitter tbh) that it's all thanks to the Tesla AI team. Okay but are they cuter than my custom Rolls Royce? Asking for a friend.

Rich People Problems and $4.20 Rides?

Apparently the first rides were only for Tesla stans influencers and shareholders – basically the elite of the elite. And Elon charged a flat fee of $4.20 per ride. A nod to the weed number? You know as in 4/20! Like that is the perfect number. If he charged more I would have to say 'this is getting exhausting!'. I mean my Uber Black costs more than that to get me from Hidden Hills to Calabasas for lunch with Stassie! Like what even is this?

Zero Issues? Or Zero Clue?

One person on X (yes still Twitter) said they had like zero issues after 11 rides. Meanwhile other people spotted the robotaxis making like questionable driving decisions. Someone said it went the wrong way down a road!! The Verge even reported it. And someone else saw a robotaxi slamming on the brakes for no reason. I mean at least they are not trying to steal my parking spot... you know like some people do.

Waymo vs. Tesla: The Ultimate Driverless Showdown

So apparently Tesla is trying to like catch up with Waymo and some Chinese companies in the self driving game. Waymo is already doing like over 250,000 rides a week and surpassed 10 million trips last month. Sources say that Tesla needs to step it up because right now Waymo is definitely doing better than you sweetie. Also you can't tell me what to do Waymo!

From Austin to LA: Are We Ready for Robotaxis?

Elon wants like hundreds of thousands maybe even a million of these robotaxis by next year! He's planning to launch in LA and San Francisco after Austin. But like some lawmakers and safety advocates are worried because the system hasn't been released to the general public yet and some accident stories are linked to it... So like is it gonna be safe or just another chaotic day in LA traffic? We'll see!
