Wake Me When You Need Me... To Understand Bureaucracy
Alright Spartans listen up. Apparently Rolls Royce – not the Wraith kind sadly – got the thumbs up from the UK government to build some Small Modular Reactors. SMRs huh? Sounds like something the Covenant would slap on a Banshee. Anyway this whole thing took two years. Two years! I could've cleared High Charity in that time. But hey if it means less reliance on those fossil fuel things I'm all for it. The article mentions the UK is throwing down £14.2 billion on a large power station. That's a lotta credits.
Ending the 'No Nukes' Status Quo? Oorah!
Some bloke named Ed Miliband (sounds like a Grunt's name no offense) said this SMR thing will create 'thousands of jobs' and boost the economy. He even called it a 'golden age of nuclear'. Golden huh? Last time I saw gold it was on a Sangheili's armor. But if it powers 3 million homes by the mid 2030s I guess it's worth it. We need some juice to keep the shields up against those climate change Brutes.
Rolls Royce: From Luxury Cars to Nuclear Power... Interesting.
Rolls Royce is pretty happy naturally. Their CEO Tufan Erginbilgic (another Covenant sounding name…) called it a 'very significant milestone'. Shares went up too. Good for them. Maybe they can use some of that profit to build a Warthog… with air conditioning. Because let me tell you charging through the Ark in a Warthog under the desert sun is not as glamorous as it sounds.
Smaller Footprint Bigger Impact? Hopefully.
These SMRs are supposed to be smaller and cheaper than the old reactors. Which is good. We don't need another Installation 04 on our hands. Amazon and Google are getting in on the action too. Makes sense gotta power those data centers somehow. Just hope they don't start using AI to control the reactors. We all know how that turns out…
Good for the Planet or Another Gravemind Plot?
The article claims nuclear power is low carbon and can help reduce emissions. That’s the sales pitch anyway. But some environmental groups are worried about the cost and the whole 'nuclear waste' thing. Valid concerns. Guess we’ll have to wait and see if this is a step forward or just another Halo waiting to be activated.
Time to Finish This Fight... Against Climate Change
Bottom line: The UK is going nuclear. Small reactors big power stations the whole shebang. If it works great. If not well I’ve faced worse odds. Just need to make sure we have a plan to deal with any unforeseen consequences. After all we don't want to make the same mistakes as the Forerunners. Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna go find Cortana and see if she can hack these reactors for extra power. Just kidding… mostly.
