A Galaxy Far Far Away...Wait It's Just Singapore?
The President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam has dissolved the city state's parliament. A tremor in the Force perhaps? No just the prelude to their 14th general election since their... 'independence.' Nomination Day arrives on April 23rd where prospective candidates will declare their intentions. It seems their Prime Minister Lawrence Wong faces his first real test. He has much to learn about the Dark Side... I mean politics.
Nine Days of Campaigning? Impressive. Most Impressive.
Nine days of campaigning followed by a 'cooling off day'. How quaint. Back in my day we crushed rebellions in less time. These politicians will be filing their papers like padawans eager to impress their masters. Let us hope they are not as reckless as young Skywalker.
The Ruling Party: Their Grip is Tight.
The People's Action Party (PAP) has ruled this... Singapore since 1965. Their grip on power is strong like my grip on the throats of incompetent officers. But even the strongest empires can crumble. They are expected to be challenged for all 97 parliamentary seats. A bold move. Let's see if it pays off or if they will learn the true power of the Dark Side.
Cost of Living? A Pathway to the Dark Side...
Voter concerns center on the cost of living jobs and unemployment. These are weaknesses the opposition might exploit. Remember fear leads to anger anger leads to hate and hate leads to... well hopefully not the Sith. But a change in government is inevitable if these concerns are not addressed. The Force is with them maybe.
Tariffs and Trade Wars: A Disturbing Development.
The article speaks of 'heightened global turmoil' and the... *Trump's* tariffs. Wong expresses disappointment. Such naivete! Trade is a game of power and power is what the Empire I mean any government must wield. Singapore's GDP expansion is lower than expected? Perhaps they need to embrace the efficiency of the Death Star project.
The Empire...I mean Singapore Eases Monetary Policy.
A monetary policy easing? A sign of weakness! They fear a potential zero growth year. Pathetic! When faced with adversity one must crush it with an iron fist not appease it with...economics. I find their lack of faith disturbing. But let's see what happens in their Election. Perhaps Singapore will rise from the dark side.. or fall deeper into it.

I have a bad feeling about this election!

Will Lawrence Wong be able to fill Lee Hsien Loong's shoes?
