A Disturbance in the Force... Field

I sense a great disturbance in the Force... and in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Automated Commercial Environment. Apparently a glitch a mere blip in the system caused widespread confusion regarding the new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. It seems the code designed to exempt freight already en route from the clutches of these tariffs went rogue for over ten hours! A dark day indeed. This is not the way of the Sith where precision and control are paramount. Someone has failed me.

Automated Commercial... Catastrophe!

The alert from U.S. Customs stated they deployed an "immediate correction" to the issue. An immediate correction? Pathetic! They should have foreseen this. The Emperor would not tolerate such incompetence. It seems the Automated Commercial Environment a tool meant to streamline trade instead became a weapon of chaos failing to recognize the lower duty rate of 10% for in transit shipments. This is a direct attack on the efficiency of the Empire's trade routes! I find their lack of foresight disturbing.

Resubmit! Resubmit NOW!

Now these customs officials are demanding shippers resubmit their entry summaries claiming those 'articles the product of countries' loaded onto vessels between specific dates should claim the 10% additional rate. As if dealing with Imperial bureaucracy wasn't already taxing enough! Remember obedience is paramount. Resubmit or face the consequences! Perhaps I should assign Lord Vader to oversee this operation personally... No even I have better things to do.

Cargo Release: A New Hope?

To keep the wheels of commerce turning Customs is advising importers to file cargo release forms now and deal with the financial papers later. It is like telling a Jedi to use the Force without training! A temporary solution perhaps but hardly ideal. The tariffs paused on many nations' trade are based on the sailing date. They call this an "on the water" clause. This policy which they have not changed has increased tariff percentages to 145%. It has not been changed but these 'policy makers' can't get their systems to properly implement it!

Tariff Whiplash: The Dark Side of Trade

According to some lesser beings on your planet there is "confusion on what President Trump has said in social media posts on when the tariff starts and what is written in the executive order." Social media posts are not law but clearly this whole situation is a mess! Dewardric McNeal some 'managing director' claims the glitch may indicate they need more time adding to the policy chaos. It's a mess to simply state it. Trade will flow but at greater complexity. All of this for what? To assert dominance? Such petty squabbling. I sense great weakness in this approach.

The Emperor's New Tariff or Is It?

Rick Woldenberg some toy manufacturer is pausing expansion plans due to the uncertainty. "I cannot run my business based on social media posts," he whines. "This trade policy can kill me and hundreds of small businesses like me." Pathetic. Fear is a powerful motivator but crippling fear is useless. This trade policy according to him was crafted with little interest in the details and that will drive business and the economy down the toilet. Perhaps these businesses should learn to adapt to embrace the power of the Dark Side! Or perhaps these politicians will learn to do their jobs!
