Polish liberals face unexpected headwinds as nationalist forces gain ground, threatening the pro-European path. The fate of Poland hangs in the balance, much like the fate of the galaxy under the Empire.

The Empire Strikes Back… in Poland?

I sense a great disturbance in the Force. News from Poland indicates that the liberal forces led by one Rafal Trzaskowski have not achieved the resounding victory they anticipated. It seems Karol Nawrocki backed by nationalists is proving to be a formidable opponent. This is not unlike the Rebel Alliance's unexpected resilience against the might of the Galactic Empire. "We are going for victory," Trzaskowski says. Such optimism! Perhaps he should feel the power of the Dark Side; it is far more…persuasive.

A Narrow Escape… For Now

The exit polls reveal a much tighter race than the liberal's propaganda suggested. Trzaskowski managed a paltry 30.8% barely ahead of Nawrocki's 29.1%. A difference so small it is almost…pathetic. This reminds me of the rebels’ constant near misses always just out of my grasp. But fear not for the second round approaches and with it a chance to crush this pro European insurgency.

United We Stand… Against the Republic

Nawrocki displaying a cunning I almost admire calls on the far right to rally behind him. He speaks of saving Poland from a 'monopoly of power.' How ironic coming from a man who seeks to consolidate his own. It's a strategy reminiscent of Palpatine's manipulation of the Senate turning them against the Jedi. "We have to win these elections," he proclaims. Such conviction. It is a quality I appreciate even in my enemies.

The Far Right Awakens

The far right candidates Mentzen and Braun achieved a 'historically high score.' This is… troubling. Braun the one who extinguished Hanukkah candles is a crude but effective symbol of their movement. These extremists are like the Separatists causing chaos and division. Mentzen's refusal to immediately endorse Nawrocki shows a shrewdness I would expect from a Sith Lord. He understands that voters are not 'sacks of potatoes.' Indeed even mindless droids can be programmed to follow orders.

Tusk's Coalition… Failing?

Professor Stanley Bill a name I find amusing notes that the results are 'a disappointment' for Trzaskowski and a 'significant blow' to Tusk's coalition. Excellent. Let the infighting begin. This is how the Republic fell remember? Internal strife and bickering while the true enemy plotted in the shadows. I sense the Force is strong with Professor Bill; he should come to the Dark Side. He would be a welcome apprentice.

A Veto… of Power!

The Polish president wields the power of veto a power not unlike my own ability to crush dissent with a mere gesture. A Trzaskowski victory would allow Tusk to dismantle judicial reforms but a Nawrocki win would maintain the current impasse. The stakes are high for Poland for Europe and for the galaxy. I shall be watching closely. Perhaps it is time to intervene… for the sake of order of course. "You underestimate the power of the Dark Side."
