Gotham West?
This isn't Gotham but the shadows are just as long. Word on the street – or rather on the Bat channel – is that Senator Alex Padilla got a bit too close to Secretary Noem's press conference. Seems he had some questions about deportation efforts and DHS wasn't exactly rolling out the Bat signal of welcome. More like a Bat stun grenade of 'get out.' Ironic isn't it? The system meant to protect silencing dissent like a common thug.
Handcuffs and Hypocrisy
The video footage is… unsettling. Two officers manhandling a sitting Senator? 'I am Senator Alex Padilla,' he declares a statement met with the warm embrace of steel cuffs. Reminds me of the time I tried to explain my methods to a corrupt GCPD. Some things never change. DHS claims Padilla was being disrespectful a potential attacker even. Right because a Senator interrupting a press conference is now Public Enemy Number One. Perhaps they mistook him for the Joker though I doubt even he would wear a suit.
The Trump Card
Senator Padilla says 'If this is how the Department of Homeland Security responds to a senator with a question you can only imagine what they're doing to farm workers to cooks to day laborers throughout the Los Angeles community and throughout California and throughout the country.' He's got a point. If they're treating elected officials like this what hope do the powerless have? It's the kind of fear that breeds chaos the kind I fight every night. Though I usually reserve the handcuffs for the truly deserving. Like say a certain clown who enjoys chaos… just sayin'.
The Blame Game
DHS is playing the 'he didn't identify himself' card. Please. He practically shouted his title as he was being dragged out. They're also throwing around the 'disrespectful political theatre' accusation. Pot calling the kettle black wouldn't you say? I've seen less theatrical displays during a Penguin heist. At least the Penguin has style.
A 15 Minute Truce?
The best part? After all the shoving and handcuffing Padilla and Noem had a *15 minute meeting.* Seriously? They couldn't have skipped the whole assault and gone straight to the discussion? Maybe they could have resolved their issues over some coffee and a Batarang or two? It's like trying to reason with the Riddler; a whole lotta drama for a simple answer.
Echoes of Outrage
Schumer's 'sickened' and Bass finds it 'abhorrent'. Even Newsom is weighing in painting a grim picture of what this means for the average citizen. They're right to be concerned. This isn't about politics; it's about power and how easily it can be abused. I need to keep a closer watch on this situation. Gotham has enough problems; I don't need LA turning into Arkham West.
