A Little Anarchy in the Motor City
Hello Gotham! Or uh Detroit whatever. Seems some bright sparks over at Slate Auto think they can build a new car company. An electric one! Backed by that Bezos fella. They’re holed up in some supplier park playing pretend with prototypes and assembly lines. All very… cute. As I always say 'Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order and everything becomes chaos. I'm an agent of chaos.' And what's more chaotic than trying to build an affordable EV pickup in *this* economy?
Stripped Down and Ready to Rumble (Maybe)
These aren’t your fancy Batmobiles folks. These are bare bones two seater pickup trucks. Think erector set meets golf cart. They even let you name it yourself! How… democratic. No fancy screens no paint jobs just you and the open road (or you know the parking lot). They're calling it 'radically simple,' I'm calling it an excuse to save a few bucks. But hey maybe that’s the point. After all 'It's not about the money... It's about sending a message. Everything burns!' Or at least runs on batteries right?
The $20,000 Dream (Plus a Few Extras…)
The big hook? A starting price under $20,000. Before you start piling on the extras of course. Decals lights fancy wheels – suddenly that ‘affordable’ EV is costing more than a used hearse. But hey they've got 100,000 reservations with $50 deposits! That's almost enough to buy a decent stick of dynamite. Let’s see if those reservations turn into actual sales or just another heap of broken promises. 'Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I’m a dog chasing cars. I wouldn’t know what to do with one if I caught it!'
A Blank Slate or a Recipe for Disaster?
These guys claim they’re different. Simpler manufacturing lower costs. Apparently they started with a blank whiteboard and a dream. I prefer a blank canvas and a few gallons of gasoline but to each their own. They’re even using ‘off the shelf’ parts and skipping the paint job. Genius! Or maybe just… cheap? Time will tell if this blank slate turns into a masterpiece or a complete and utter disaster. 'Madness is like gravity...all it takes is a little push.'
Hurdles Hazards and Hilarious Headaches
Of course there are a few… challenges. Limited market for two door vehicles slow EV adoption regulatory uncertainty and the small matter of actually building and selling the darn things. Analysts are already poking holes in the plan. Will people actually want to customize their own cars? Can they keep the price down? Will anyone even want a two door pickup in the first place? So many questions so little time to watch the world burn. 'This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.'
Game On! Or Game Over?
So there you have it. Slate Auto the plucky little startup trying to shake up the auto industry. Will they succeed? Will they crash and burn? Will they manage to build a car that doesn't fall apart after a week? I for one am eager to find out. Because let's face it chaos is the spice of life. And as I always say 'Why so serious?' Let's put a smile on that face...and see what happens when they try to mass produce these things. It's going to be fun!
