A Farewell Ride Darling?
Right let's get down to business. Seems Uber is having a bit of a shake up. Pierre Dimitri Gore Coty one of their top chaps is off gallivanting elsewhere after nearly 13 years. Honestly 13 years at one company? Makes me feel like I've been raiding tombs for centuries! As CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said 'It's hard to imagine Uber without Pierre.' I know the feeling darling. Try imagining the world without my impeccable aim and dual pistols.
From France to Fortune...and Now Freedom!
Gore Coty started as a humble general manager in France back in '12 and climbed the corporate ladder faster than I scale a crumbling temple. He even took over Uber Eats just before the world went bonkers with those lockdowns. Talk about a trial by fire! But where's he off to now? That's the million dollar question isn't it? Or perhaps knowing the kind of treasures I’m after the multi billion dollar question...
Enter Macdonald: The New Sheriff in Town
Meanwhile Andrew Macdonald is stepping up as Chief Operating Officer. He'll be overseeing everything from mobility to delivery even those self driving cars they're tinkering with. Seems like a proper challenge. Good luck to him I say. He joined 4 months before Gore Coty which in Uber years probably makes him an ancient relic.
Executive Team Purge?
Gore Coty's departure thins the ranks of Uber's executive dream team leaving Macdonald as the longest serving member. I must say a power vacuum is always an interesting opportunity. Though I usually find those in ancient tombs not boardrooms.
Uber's Ups and Downs: A Financial Rollercoaster
The markets seem rather unfazed by all this. Uber shares barely twitched. Though to be fair the stock is up 39% this year. Not bad not bad at all. Still it seems they're in a bit of hot water with the FTC over some billing practices. Khosrowshahi called the lawsuit 'a bit of a head scratcher.' Well I've certainly encountered my share of head scratching puzzles in ancient temples though those usually involved booby traps and cryptic clues.
What's Next for Uber? My Expert (and Totally Unsolicited) Opinion
So what does all this mean? Who knows! But if Uber wants to stay ahead of the game they need to keep innovating keep exploring and maybe just maybe hire a tomb raider to consult on problem solving. After all I’m quite good at finding solutions where others only see dead ends and booby traps. 'I make my own luck,' as they say.
