Another One Bites the Dust! (Or Well the Assembly Line)
Oh hello there! Hermione Granger here reporting live from the Muggle world of… cars? Honestly sometimes I think I'd rather be battling trolls than deciphering automotive industry news. But duty calls! Word on the street—or rather the CNBC news feed—is that General Motors is axing the Cadillac XT6. Yes you heard right! The three row crossover is getting the boot from the Spring Hill assembly plant in Tennessee by the end of the year. It’s a bit like when Professor Trelawney 'predicted' Buckbeak's execution; you sort of saw it coming but it's still a bit of a downer.
XT5: The Car That Lived (For Now)
But hold on there's a twist worthy of a Time Turner! The smaller Cadillac XT5 is getting a stay of execution with production extended until at least the end of 2026. Apparently Muggles have a soft spot for this particular model. GM claims these changes aren't due to pesky tariffs (thank goodness imagine dealing with those in the wizarding world!) but rather part of their grand plan to offer a full lineup of electric vehicles. However it does make one wonder if their conviction is "faltering wavering I see confusion!" as our favorite Divination Professor would say.
Electric Dreams Deferred? Cadillac's 2030 Ambition Hits a Speed Bump
Now here's where it gets a bit… perplexing. Cadillac it seems has "pulled back" (their words not mine!) on their ambition to exclusively sell EVs by 2030. This is like Ron promising to do all his homework and then 'accidentally' leaving his books at home. They've been on a product spree introducing six new or updated models in the past year both electric and… *gasp*… gasoline powered! It’s as if they’re hedging their bets a bit like stocking up on both Floo Powder and Portkeys just in case.
Vistiq: The Heir Apparent?
The Tennessee plant is also churning out the Cadillac Lyriq their first foray into the EV world since 2022. Oh and they've recently started production of the Vistiq a three row crossover that’s essentially replacing the XT6. It's all very dramatic isn't it? Like a game of musical chairs but with cars and corporate strategies.
Demand and Downtime: A Muggle Tale of Supply and... Well You Know
According to the internal memo (which I must say was far less exciting than a Marauder's Map) the XT5’s continued production is due to "strong customer demand." Meanwhile the plant is scheduled for downtime the week of May 12 with temporary layoffs for workers. Apparently they need to adjust vehicle inventory to match demand. It’s all very… *mundane*. One might say it lacks a certain... *sparkle*. Reminds me a bit of when we tried to brew Polyjuice Potion in our second year and it just tasted like socks.
Underwhelming XT6: A Cautionary Tale
Let's not forget about the XT6 whose sales have been shall we say "underwhelming" since its launch in 2019. Averaging about 19,000 units a year. It's like Gilderoy Lockhart; all flash no substance. It shared many components with the cheaper GMC Acadia which probably didn't help its case. So farewell XT6. You were… a car. And now back to my books! Honestly I find Arithmancy far less confusing than the automotive industry. At least with numbers you know what you're getting.

Maybe gasoline cars still have a future after all.

GM needs to focus on building quality EVs, not just any EVs.
