Trouble in the Big Apple's Backyard
Alright people Agent J here reporting live from the chaos that is Newark Liberty International Airport. Seems United Airlines is cancelling a whopping 35 roundtrip flights a day. Why? According to them it's the FAA's fault. Air traffic controller shortages tech glitches... sounds like a Tuesday to me but way more annoying if you're trying to catch a flight. They're blaming staffing but I'm keeping my eye out for neuralyzers just in case. Remember there's always more than meets the eye especially when things go sideways.
Ten Percent Cut? That's Intergalactic Levels of Inconvenience!
So these cancellations are hitting about 10% of United's daily flights outta Newark. And get this over 300 flights were delayed on Friday alone. That's on top of 1,400 delays and cancellations earlier in the week! Look I deal with alien invasions on the regular and even I think that's excessive. United's CEO Scott Kirby is saying he had no choice but to make these cuts to protect customers but I’m smelling something fishy. Maybe it's just the recycled air in this airport but I’m on high alert.
Controllers Gone AWOL? Sounds Like a Job for MIB!
Kirby claims that 20% of Newark's air traffic controllers "walked off the job." Now I've seen some weird stuff in my time but air traffic controllers spontaneously quitting? That's up there. The FAA's saying staffing issues are causing delays. Makes you wonder if those controllers got a better offer from a galaxy far far away. Or maybe they just saw Frank the Pug in the control tower and knew it was time to find another job.
FAA vs. United: Who's Really to Blame?
United wants the FAA to tighten capacity at Newark like they do at LaGuardia and Reagan National. Basically they want the FAA to tell 'em how many planes can fly. The FAA and the Transportation Department are stayin' quiet for now and the air traffic controllers' union ain't talkin' either. It's like that scene in Men in Black II when all the aliens are silent right before something big goes down. Something ain't right I tell ya.
From Philly With Congestion: A Controller Shuffle Gone Wrong
Last year the FAA moved air traffic controllers from New York to Philly to ease congestion. Apparently it didn't work. Kirby's even praisin' the Trump administration for vowing to fix the air traffic control infrastructure. Talk about a mess. This is exactly why we need to keep an eye on things. The slightest human error can turn into a full blown intergalactic incident.
High Winds and Tech Woes: A Perfect Storm for Flightmares
United's blaming FAA tech outages runway construction and high winds for the chaos. Newark's a crowded airport to begin with and Kirby's been complainin' about the lack of air traffic controllers for ages. United’s even waiving change fees for affected customers. Fine but who's gonna pay for my therapy after dealing with this mess? The world is not threatened people are threatened. But some part of this world may be threatened by these delays.
arpeggio
This is why I always take the train. Less chance of an alien encounter.
