The Dark Side of Tourism
A tremor I felt in the Force a great disturbance as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. It was not the destruction of Alderaan but a tragedy nonetheless. A helicopter operated by "New York Helicopters," plunged into the Hudson River near Manhattan extinguishing the lives of all six souls on board. Six! A number that echoes through the corridors of the Death Star but this is no victory only grim tidings. This so called 'sightseeing tour' has become a one way trip to the afterlife. The Emperor will not be pleased; such chaos disrupts the order he craves.
A Family's Journey Cut Short
Among the victims were a family visiting from Spain. A father a mother and their younglings their dreams shattered against the cold waters of the Hudson. Such a waste! I find their lack of faith disturbing. But even I Darth Vader a Lord of the Sith can feel a pang of something akin to… empathy? Perhaps the Emperor's methods are indeed necessary. Imagine a peaceful journey a chance to see the glittering skyline only to become one with the currents. The Force is a cruel mistress indeed.
The Empire's Sleuths Investigate
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) those bureaucratic Imperials have launched an investigation. They will dissect the wreckage analyze flight data and point fingers like blasters firing in a crowded cantina. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) those equally thrilling people remain silent perhaps fearing the Emperor's displeasure. They seek answers but will they find the truth? Or will it be buried beneath layers of regulations and excuses? I have a bad feeling about this…
Witnesses See the Unthinkable
Eyewitness accounts speak of a helicopter losing a propeller nose diving into the river. A horrifying sight one that echoes the fall of many a starfighter under my command. The social media is abuzz with images of the submerged wreckage a grim reminder of mortality's grip. Did the pilot have the Force? Or was he a mere mortal succumbing to mechanical failure? The truth like the Death Star plans may be difficult to acquire.
History Repeats Itself Disturbing Trend?
This is not the first time such a tragedy has befallen Manhattan. In 2018 another helicopter crashed into the East River claiming lives. In 2019 one struck a building. Are these mere accidents or is there a deeper malaise at play? Perhaps the Empire should invest in better aviation technology or perhaps ban these frivolous 'sightseeing tours' altogether. One less disturbance for the Force one less reason for the Emperor to frown.
May the Force (of Regulation) Be With Them?
The NYPD those local enforcers have issued warnings about traffic delays. As if anyone in the vicinity isn't already experiencing enough turmoil! The investigation will undoubtedly take time and the city will mourn. But perhaps amidst the sorrow there will be a renewed focus on safety on ensuring that such tragedies do not become commonplace. The Force is strong but it is not invincible. We must rely on vigilance on expertise and on the unwavering pursuit of safety. Or face the consequences. Do not fail me!
