California Dreamin' of Driverless Cars? Hold Your Horses!

Hey yo! It's Rocky here poundin' the pavement and talkin' about this new shebang in California. Seems like the California DMV – that's like the ref in our big fight see? – they're throwin' down some new rules for them fancy self drivin' cars. From those little robotaxis like Waymo's to those big rig driverless trucks like Plus.AI's they're tryin' to keep things safe and sound. It's like when Mickey told me 'Women weaken legs!' Well unsafe robo cars weaken the whole darn city!

Tesla in the Ring? Not So Fast Champ!

Now this Elon Musk fella he's been jawin' for years about havin' these self drivin' Teslas right? But here's the thing they ain't got the permits yet in California. It's like tryin' to get into the heavyweight championship without winnin' the prelims! Other guys like Waymo and Zoox they're already ahead of the game drivin' around and stuff. Tesla needs to get their act together or they'll be singin' the blues like Adrian after a tough round. It's gonna be Eye of the Tiger or bust!

45 Days to Speak Up! Yo What Do You Say?

The California DMV put these rules on their website and they're askin' folks like you and me what we think. They're givin' us 45 days to yap about it – ends June 9 2025. After that they're gonna have a big ol' meetin'. So if you got somethin' to say say it! Don't be like Paulie complainin' but never doin' nothin'. This is our chance to make sure these robo cars don't turn into a demolition derby on the streets. Because you know 'everybody can change!'

Permit Palooza: Test Drives and Paperwork!

Now to get these driverless things rollin' these car companies gotta jump through some hoops. First they need a permit to test 'em with a human driver just in case. Then they gotta do a bunch of test miles. After that they need another permit for testin' without a driver! And finally a last one to actually put 'em on the road for good! It's like trainin' for a fight ya know? You gotta spar run lift weights... it's a whole lotta work before you're ready for the bell. But with this you need to get the permits otherwise you get disqualified and end up like Apollo 'Too fast to get beat!'

Big Rigs Get in on the Action!

And get this – these new rules even let those big ol' autonomous trucks the ones weighin' over 10,001 pounds to get tested on California roads! These companies also gotta tell the state everything they're doin' with the cars and listen to what the firefighters and cops have to say. After all gotta make sure these things can handle a fire or a chase without runnin' over someone. It's all about keepin' the streets safe one robo truck at a time. Like I always say 'Going in one more round when you don't think you can that's what makes all the difference in your life.'

Tesla in Hot Water! Again!

Remember how I said the California DMV is like the ref? Well they're also like the cops 'cause they sued Tesla in 2022! Said they were makin' promises about their Autopilot and Full Self Driving that they couldn't keep. Claimed they were tryin' to fool everyone. That case is still goin' on so we'll see what happens. But one thing's for sure: you can't just go around lyin' to people. Like Mickey said 'One step at a time. One punch at a time. One round at a time.'
