Sweet Zombie Jesus It's Happening!

Good news everyone! It seems those blokes across the pond in Britain have finally caught up with the 31st century… almost. They're drafting up legislation for this 'cryptocurrency' fad. Apparently it involves digital money and enough jargon to make even me Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth scratch my head. And that's saying something considering what's rattling around up here! They say they want to be 'world leaders'. I've heard that before. Usually ends with someone accidentally inventing sentient butter.

Regulating the Wild West (of the Future)

According to U.K. Finance Minister Rachel Reeves (who sounds vaguely like a malfunctioning robot maid) the aim is to create a 'comprehensive regulatory regime.' I assume that means fewer scams and slightly less chance of your life savings vanishing into the ether. They're bringing crypto exchanges and dealers under control which is probably for the best. Remember that time Fry invested all our money in Dogecoin? Oh the humanity!

Transparency Consumer Protection and Other Words I Barely Understand

The British Treasury claims these new rules will demand 'clear standards on transparency consumer protection and operational resilience.' Sounds suspiciously like… responsibility. Ugh. Still if it means fewer confused pensioners accidentally buying NFTs of Nibbler eating tacos I suppose it's a necessary evil. Besides if we can regulate crypto perhaps we can finally regulate Bender's drinking habits.

International Cooperation? To the U.S. No One Can Hear You Scheme

Ah cooperation with the U.S. That's always a recipe for success! Or utter disaster. Hard to tell really. Minister Reeves wants to deepen regulatory ties with America to boost 'responsible' adoption. Makes you wonder what sort of shenanigans they're really up to. Probably something involving time travel and a paradox that will destroy the universe. Standard procedure really.

Regulation Must Support Business Or To The Sun With You

Reeves rightly states that regulation 'must support business not hold it back.' Indeed! You can't stifle innovation with too much red tape. Otherwise we'd never have invented the Smell O Scope or the What If Machine or… well a lot of things that probably should have been held back now that I think about it.

The Financial Conduct Authority: Friend or Foe?

Apparently some crypto folks think the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is being a bit of a killjoy making it hard for them to register their businesses. Bureaucracy always a pain in the posterior! But it's for the best that only those who want a secure and reliable system are able to thrive this is why the professor only invests in Planet Express a company that is 90% reliable... most of the time.
