Like Waiting Is the New Black?

Okay so I was reading this article about Microsoft and their whole AI strategy and I was like 'Wait they're not even trying to be first?!' Apparently their AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman – who BTW sounds like he knows his stuff – told CNBC that they're cool with waiting to build AI models that are like three to six months behind. Can you even imagine waiting that long for anything? But he says it's cheaper and lets them focus on specific stuff. He calls it 'off frontier.' Honestly sometimes I feel like my whole life is off frontier but in a glam way you know?

Microsoft's AI Strategy? More Like Second Place Swag!

Mustafa was saying something about how it's a 'very tight second' strategy because these AI models are capital intensive. Capital intensive? Sounds like buying a Birkin! But seriously he used to be at DeepMind (bought by Google NBD) and Inflection. Now he's at Microsoft making them play the long game. I’m all about patience especially when it comes to the perfect lip kit shade or contour but is this patience worth it?

Friends With (AI) Benefits

Microsoft is all about those relationships like me and my sisters! They get AI models from OpenAI (who doesn't love a good startup?) and computing power from CoreWeave. They're basically using OpenAI's stuff to make Bing Windows and all that jazz way cooler. It’s like when I collaborate on a makeup collection – everyone wins!

Copilot's Got Memory? Spooky!

So Microsoft's Copilot is getting 'memory' to remember stuff about people? That’s kinda creepy but also kinda genius. Like imagine if your personal assistant actually remembered your Starbucks order without you even having to tell them. Okay maybe that’s just me but still! OpenAI's ChatGPT already has this which is how they got 500 million weekly users because they are the blueprint. Microsoft calls their version 'Think Deeper.' Catchy!

Open Source Small Talk and Big Investments

Microsoft sometimes releases open source models that can run on PCs which like sounds super techy. But the real tea is their relationship with OpenAI. They invested $13.75 billion in them which is more than my entire lip kit empire...almost! But things are getting a little spicy because Microsoft added OpenAI to their list of competitors and OpenAI is working with Oracle on this $500 billion Stargate project. Drama!

Self Sufficient Slay

Mustafa said it's 'mission critical' for Microsoft to be AI self sufficient which sounds like something Kris Jenner would say about our family brand. But he also said they're deeply partnered with OpenAI until at least 2030. So basically they're focused on their own AI but they don't need to be the *absolute* best right away because that's just too expensive. Smart right? Sometimes you gotta let others be extra so you can save your coins for like private jets and stuff! I'm not saying Microsoft isn't trying to build the best models but they aren't in a competition with themself it's not a race it's a marathon... or is it a sprint? Either way keep up!
