Nintendo Switch 2 Delayed Thanks to Trump's Tariffs! Are Your Games Doomed?

Great Snakes! A Delay?

Well hello there! Your favorite archaeologist and professor Indiana Jones reporting live from… wherever the winds of fortune (and import taxes) take me! Seems even Nintendo can't outrun those nasty tariffs old Trump's been cookin' up. They've had to put the brakes on the Switch 2 pre orders here in the States. "Pre orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions," a Nintendo representative told CNBC. "Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5 2025 is unchanged." Unchanged FOR NOW that is. I’ve seen enough government red tape to know how these things go. Reminds me of that time in Cairo… but that's another story.

It Belongs in a Museum... or Maybe Vietnam?

Apparently most of our beloved electronics are forged in the lands of Asia places like China and Vietnam which are now bearing the brunt of these tariffs. Remember when the original Switch was made in China and Vietnam? Well Vietnam was hit with a 46% tariff and China is now at a 54%. It’s like Belloq finding the Ark first only instead of melting faces it's melting our wallets! Where will they make the Switch 2 Nintendo hasn't said. Let’s hope they find a loophole faster than I can find a priceless artifact in a booby trapped temple!

Fortune and Glory... or Just Higher Prices?

The big question is: are we gonna have to shell out more for our gaming fix? Nintendo is playing it coy on whether they’ll raise the $450 price tag. I’d bet my fedora (and you KNOW how much that hat means to me!) that prices will go up. IPC a trade group focused on electronics manufacturing estimated Friday that game console prices could rise by 50% due to the tariffs announced this week. I always say “If adventure has a name… it must be Indiana Jones.” But maybe it should be 'Inflationary Nightmare' from now on.

Bigger Better and More Expensive?

The Switch 2 is supposed to be a real doozy – a bigger faster version of the original which sold over 150 million units! That’s more than there are snakes in… well you get the idea. It’s even got a fancy Nvidia chip! Gamers will be able to use the Switch 2 as both a handheld console and hook it up to a television. Sounds brilliant right? But will we be able to afford it? That is the question that haunts my dreams!

June Release Still on Track... For Now!

Right now the plan is still to unleash this beast in June alongside a new Mario Kart game. One can only hope that this delay in pre orders doesn't become a full blown cancellation. Who knows maybe I should start brushing up on my Mandarin… or Vietnamese… just in case I need to barter for a console. You know something valuable... like I don't know maybe The Sankara Stones.

This whole situation just goes to show you even ancient curses aren't as scary as modern economics. So buckle up folks because it's gonna be a bumpy ride. Remember it’s not the years honey it’s the mileage… and the tariffs! Indiana Jones signing off!
