Fortune and Glory Kid! Amazon's Year of Living Dangerously (and Profitably)

Alright gather 'round you archaeological adventurers! Indy's got his hands on the latest scroll from the Amazonian jungle – a letter from Chief Jassy himself! And what a year it's been for them! Revenue's up profits are soaring higher than a biplane dodging Messerschmitts and they're practically giving things away cheaper than a dodgy Cairo market vendor. From $575B to $638B an 11% growth folks! Even Short Round could see that's a lotta dough! Seems they're still obsessed with making customers happy which let's be honest is a bit like chasing the Holy Grail – a never ending quest. But hey at least they're shipping faster than a runaway boulder. "We shipped at record speed to our Prime members!"

The AWS Awakens: Silicon and AI Oh My!

But hold on to your fedoras because the real treasure lies in the cloud! Amazon Web Services or AWS as they call it is booming like a Nazi gold mine! Up 19% YoY. Jassy's babbling about AI silicon Trainium2s and a whole alphabet soup of techy things that sound like something out of a Jules Verne novel. But the gist of it is they're diving headfirst into Artificial Intelligence. Something about Amazon Nova and Generative AI. Makes you wonder if Skynet is just around the corner doesn't it? Remember what happened with the Ark? Some things are best left buried!

Kindle and Prime: Old Tech New Tricks!

Don't think they've forgotten the old relics! They're still flogging those Kindle thingamajigs like snake oil at a travelling carnival! "We launched a series of new Kindle devices that included a new color version." New colors a larger Scribe – anything to get folks to keep reading! And Prime Video is pumping out content faster than you can say 'Snakes why did it have to be snakes?' Fallout Reacher The Boys and some rings of power. They're even getting into sports! Soon you'll be able to watch any game at any time from your couch! But will it bring any real fortune or glory?

Why Why Did It Have To Be 'Why'?!

Now here's where it gets a bit philosophical even for an archaeologist! Jassy keeps harping on about this 'Why' culture. Apparently they're all running around asking 'Why can't we do this?' or 'Why does this have to be so difficult?' Sounds like a bunch of kids with a serious case of 'but why Mom?'! But he says it helps them unlock new ideas. "We ask why and why not constantly." I guess even the biggest corporations need a bit of childish curiosity to keep things interesting. Just don't let them start questioning the existence of ancient artifacts alright?

The Leadership Labyrinth: Principles Narratives and Messy Meetings

To encourage more of this 'Why' Jassy talks about Leadership Principles and narratives and something about PowerPoints being banned in favor of six page narratives. And get this: they tolerate messy meetings! A bit like trying to decipher hieroglyphs in a sandstorm. "It's hard to 'schedule' innovation." But apparently it's all part of the process. They even operate like a startup. The world's biggest startup mind you! But hey if it works it works. Just try not to step on any snakes at those messy meetings.

AI Alexa and the Future: The Crystal Skull of the Digital Age?

Finally Jassy dives into the future! It all revolves around AI and he's convinced it's going to change everything. They're pouring money into it building chips and even trying to make Alexa not completely useless. "Generative AI is going to reinvent virtually every customer experience we know." But all this talk of AI reminds me of those crystal skulls – powerful mysterious and potentially world ending. Let's just hope they're careful with it eh? Because the last thing we need is Amazon unleashing some kind of digital apocalypse! He asks a number of 'Why' questions like Why is AI so important? How can Alexa help? Why can't we get items to customers even faster? He needs answers and he needs them fast!
