Another Pause? 'Honestly What Is Going On?'
Honestly sometimes I feel like I'm back in Potions class brewing something that’s about to explode! Apparently Tesla is halting Cybertruck and Model Y production in Austin for a whole week starting June 30th. Business Insider the source of this information states that the shutdown is for maintenance. Maintenance you say? Sounds like someone forgot to use a proper 'Reparo' spell on those production lines doesn't it? This will be the third shutdown at the Austin factory in the past year. Honestly what is going on?
Robotaxi Rollout: 'A Brave If Foolish Endeavour'?
Adding to the chaos Tesla is planning to launch its Robotaxi service in Austin on June 22nd using Model Ys equipped with the 'Full Self Driving' technology. CEO Elon Musk even posted a video on X (formerly known as Twitter) of a Model Y Robotaxi cruising down an Austin road. While I appreciate the ambition I can't help but feel like this is a bit like sending Neville Longbottom into the Forbidden Forest alone – a brave if foolish endeavour. One can only hope that it won’t end with a 'Devil’s Snare' situation!
Musk's Magic Waning? 'Things We Lose Have A Way Of Coming Back To Us In The End.'
Now I'm not one to jump to conclusions faster than Ron jumps to the dessert trolley but this production pause coinciding with the Robotaxi launch raises some questions. Is Tesla stretching itself too thin? Is Musk trying to do too much at once like Hermione Granger in her third year trying to attend all the electives at once? I’m a bit concerned that Tesla shares slid more than 2% Tuesday. I hope it is only a 'minor setback' as Dumbledore always says 'things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end' I hope its the same for Tesla.
Full Self Driving? More Like 'Full of Surprises'!
And let's not forget about this 'Full Self Driving' technology. While the name sounds impressive I can't help but wonder if it's truly ready for the real world. I mean if a simple 'Confundo' charm can throw off even the most experienced wizard what could a rogue pigeon do to a self driving car? And how about the legality of it all? Will there be a special Ministry of Transport for Robotaxis?
A 'Knut's Worth' of Concern: 'We Must All Face The Choice Between What Is Right And What Is Easy.'
The phrase 'a Knut's worth' is something to take note of it may seem insignificant but it could grow to something huge. The production halt the ambitious Robotaxi launch the wavering stock prices they all add up to a rather concerning picture. I sincerely hope Tesla can get its act together. As Dumbledore said 'We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.' Here's hoping Elon Musk makes the right choices.
CNBC's Quest: 'The Truth... It Is A Beautiful And Terrible Thing'!
In true journalist fashion CNBC has reached out to Tesla for comment on this reported pause. Let's hope they get a response soon because 'the truth... it is a beautiful and terrible thing and should therefore be treated with great caution'. (Even if sometimes a quick 'Obliviate' would be easier!) I'll be sure to keep you all updated as this story develops. Until then keep your wands at the ready and remember to double check your spellwork before you cast it!
