Pay Up Peasants...I Mean Athletes!
Alright people Agent J here reporting live from the front lines of… college sports? Turns out even these guys are getting a slice of the cosmic pie. PayPal just made a deal with the Big Ten and Big 12 conferences. Translation: these student athletes are about to get paid and it's gonna be faster than you can say 'neuralyzer.' Remember when Zed said 'A person is smart. People are dumb panicky dangerous animals?' Well seems like 'people' in charge finally figured out these athletes deserve some cash.
House v. NCAA: The Game Changer
So this whole thing stems from the House v. NCAA settlement. Basically schools can now compensate their athletes. We're talking up to $20.5 million per school in the next year alone and a whopping $2.8 billion for former players. I've seen less money in intergalactic black markets. This PayPal deal means the Big Ten and Big 12 will be slinging that cash through their platform exclusively. This is gonna be bigger than that time I had to clean up after the pug incident. Trust me you don't wanna know the details.
PayPal: Your New Favorite Campus ATM
PayPal is saying the rollout starts this summer. They're promising quick and secure payments for students. They can even pay tuition through PayPal now! Which means you can technically pay for college with funds you got from kicking a ball around a field. Life uh finds a way I guess. As PayPal CEO Alex Chriss said they're “proud to help lead this transformation.” Which probably means they’re also raking in the dough. Smart move Chriss. Smart move.
Venmo: The Cool Cousin
And don't forget Venmo PayPal's hip little brother. They're diving headfirst into college sports too. Big Ten Rivalry Series partner? Official Big 12 partner? These guys are everywhere. Soon you'll be able to use Venmo for textbooks tickets hotdogs. The circle of life is complete.
Big Ten and Big 12: The Schools
We're talking about powerhouses like the University of Maryland Penn State University University of Michigan and the Ohio State University over in the Big Ten. And the Big 12? Arizona State University the University of Central Florida the University of Houston—a whole lotta schools. Basically if you're a college athlete in one of these conferences congratulations you're about to be richer than most MiB agents...almost.
The Future is Now or Maybe Just Really Confusing
So what does this all mean? Well college sports are changing. Athletes are getting paid. PayPal and Venmo are becoming campus mainstays. And me? I'm just here to make sure no aliens try to use this new payment system to fund their nefarious schemes. Remember folks watch the skies and keep your neuralyzers handy. You never know when you'll need to erase a memory or two. As for these student athletes let's hope they invest wisely.
