Tea riffic Opening!
Alright people Agent J here reporting live from… well not live because who has time for that? But I'm reporting on this Chagee situation. See this Chinese tea chain right? They just went public on the Nasdaq ticker symbol 'CHA.' Get it? CHA GEE? Real smooth aliens… I mean marketing team. Anyway their stock jumped 15% faster than a neuralyzer flash. Started at $33.75 a share. Apparently they had some serious fluctuations during the day enough to give a rookie like me the jitters but hey a win's a win.
From China with Tea!
Turns out these Chagee cats are serious. They got over 6,400 teahouses in China Malaysia Singapore and Thailand. That’s more outlets than Zorpax the Destroyer has tentacles! Last year they raked in $1.7 billion in revenue with a net income of $344.5 million. That's a lot of green even by intergalactic standards. They’re saying the founder Junjie Zhang got inspired by coffee companies. Smart move. Adapt or die that’s what we say at MiB. Although usually it's more 'adapt or get neuralyzed.'
US of Tea!
Now here's where it gets interesting. Chagee is planning to open their first U.S. location in Los Angeles. Land of the free home of the… bubble tea? They're aiming for Westfield Century City mall. If you ask me seems like a strange place to start a global take over but what do I know? Last time I made location decision it led to a giant earthworm chasing me. Point is they’re coming to America. And given recent events I'd better keep an eye out for hostile extraterrestrials!
Trade War Tea nsions?
Okay so there's this whole trade war thing going on between the U.S. and China. Tariffs flying around like laser blasts. Some other companies got cold feet and delayed their IPOs but not Chagee. They're like 'Bring it on!' Makes you wonder if there's some higher force involved you know? 'Cause 'there's always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser or a Korillian Death Ray or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable little planet.' But hey it’s probably just really good tea.
The Numbers Game
From January 2023 to January 2024 fewer Chinese companies decided to list on U.S. exchanges. Down 5% according to the U.S. China Economic and Security Review Commission. Still $411 million raised valuing the company at roughly $5 billion is nothing to sneeze at even if it turns out these guys are using alien ingredients. Time to call Zed and request a full background check!
Stay Tuned Earthlings!
So there you have it. Chagee: a tea company a potential alien front or just a really good business? Only time will tell. I'll be keeping an eye on this whole situation. After all 'fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was flat. And fifteen minutes ago you knew that humans were alone on this planet.' Stay vigilant people. And maybe try the tea. For science of course.
