Apparently Secretary Noem and her DHS gang think Harvard is harboring more than just brilliant minds; they're accusing them of fostering 'pro terrorist conduct.' Pro terrorist? Last time I checked tweed jackets and intense note taking weren't exactly hallmarks of a terrorist cell. But what do I know? I'm just an archaeologist not a politician. Though I have dealt with my fair share of fanatics!

This isn't just a minor inconvenience; we're talking about over 27% of Harvard's student body! That's a lot of bright young minds potentially being forced to pack their bags and transfer elsewhere. The official line is that this is all about holding Harvard 'accountable for fostering violence antisemitism and coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party.' Coordination with the CCP eh? Sounds like something straight out of one of my adventures only instead of ancient artifacts we're dealing with… well I'm not entirely sure what they're dealing with but it smells fishy to me.

Noem claims it's a privilege not a right for universities to benefit from those sweet sweet international student tuition dollars. Apparently Harvard's 'multibillion dollar endowments' are just too tempting to resist. Now I'm no economist but even I know that cutting off a significant revenue stream is going to sting. It's like finding a priceless idol only to have it snatched away by a greedy competitor. (Bellosh comes to mind...)

Back in April Noem apparently gave Harvard a 'friendly' warning that their certification was contingent upon playing by Uncle Sam's rules. Then the administration froze a hefty $2.2 billion in federal grants after Harvard refused to ditch its diversity equity and inclusion programs. This is about as subtle as slapping someone with a wet fish. Honestly it's like watching two bulls locking horns – a lot of noise and dust and someone's bound to get hurt.

So what's really going on here? Is it genuine concern about 'pro terrorist conduct,' or is it a power play over DEI programs and ideological purity tests? Personally I suspect it's a bit of both stirred together with a healthy dose of political maneuvering.
