A Most Unwelcome Portkey
Honestly you wouldn't believe the news I've been poring over! It appears that the family of Mohamed Soliman the man accused of that dreadful attack in Colorado has been taken into custody by federal immigration agents. As if things weren't messy enough already with attempted murder charges and hate crimes swirling about like a particularly nasty batch of Veritaserum.
Wingardium Deportiosa?
According to Secretary Noem they might be deported as early as tonight! The White House even tweeted about it – yes tweeted! Honestly sometimes I feel like I'm stuck in a Muggle farce. It all feels rather… sudden doesn't it? As Professor McGonagall would say 'Really what were you doing with a Pongskettle?' In this case what are they doing rushing to judgement without a thorough investigation?
The Veritaserum of Truth (Or Lack Thereof)
The authorities are now investigating whether Soliman's family had any knowledge of or supported his actions. Which naturally raises all sorts of thorny questions. Are we to assume guilt by association now? It's like saying because Draco Malfoy was a prat his entire family was equally dreadful. (Well okay maybe they were but the principle still stands!). I can't help but wonder if they ever heard of innocent until proven guilty. Have they never read a book? It's all in the library you know.
Rubio's Decree: Deport All the Suspects!
And Secretary Rubio is threatening to revoke visas and deport anyone even suspected of being a 'terrorist sympathizer.' Honestly it's all getting a bit 'Ministry of Magic trying to control everything' for my liking. Where's the nuance? Where's the reasoned debate? Oh wait this is the Muggle world. Never mind. But it does make you think: Is this justice or a blatant overreach of power? I for one am deeply troubled.
The Legal Labyrinth: A Tourist Visa Gone Astray
Apparently Soliman entered the U.S. legally on a tourist visa in 2022 applied for asylum and then overstayed. It's a right mess isn't it? As Ron would say 'Bloody Hell!' But let's not forget even if he overstayed his welcome his family deserves a fair hearing. We can't just throw them all into the proverbial Azkaban without due process.
A Dark Confession and a Plea for Justice
Soliman allegedly confessed to planning the attack for a year even waiting until his daughter graduated. And he apparently yelled "Free Palestine!" during the attack. It's all so deeply troubling. The man is being held on a hefty bond and faces multiple charges. While justice for the victims is paramount let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater shall we? Let us make sure that we are following the law. Otherwise it would be a case of as Dumbledore would say 'it does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live'.
