Alright Spartans gather 'round. Looks like there's been a shift in the old Human Covenant War... uh I mean the political landscape. Someone in the Trump admin decided to lift sanctions on Karina Rotenberg wife of this Boris Rotenberg character a buddy of Putin's. While at the same time the US slapped sanctions on six other Russians. I'm just a soldier but even I know something smells fishy and it ain't Grunt Birthday Party confetti.

Don't Make a Girl a Promise: Who is Karina Rotenberg?

This Karina chick is a 46 year old Russian born dual citizen of the United States who was put on the Specially Designated Nationals list back in March of 2022 with her Oligarch husband and their sons. The White House hasn't said why this decision was made which is really not acceptable. I guess some people get their armor polished a little brighter than others.

I Need a Weapon: The Original Sanctions

So back in 2022 the White House under then President Biden said they were targeting these Russian elites and their families because they were supporting Putin's whole 'brutal invasion of Ukraine' thing. Sounded good to me. They were supposed to be cut off from the U.S. financial system assets frozen the whole nine yards. Makes you wonder what changed. 'Halo' is starting to feel like real life isn't it? Just a never ending fight against the bad guys.

Garry Kasparov the chess guy isn't happy either. He tweeted about it saying 'Tariffs on allies lifting sanctions on enemies.' Sounds about right. Some people clearly need a history lesson on the Covenant I mean uh Russia. Either that or they're playing a whole different game of chess and it ain't checkers I tell ya that.

This is the Way the World Ends: Rotenberg Files

Turns out these Rotenberg brothers aren't exactly saints. Back in 2014 they were sanctioned for being part of Putin's 'inner circle.' They allegedly made billions off the Sochi Olympics and state controlled Gazprom. An investigative report called "The Rotenberg Files" in June 2023 based on a 50,000 email leak says they are corrupt. Guess some people are just naturally better at playing the Great Journey... I mean capitalism.

I'm Ready How About You?: Final Thoughts

Look I'm just a soldier. I follow orders. But even I can see when something doesn't add up. Lifting sanctions on someone so close to Putin while still trying to 'punish' Russia? It's like trying to negotiate with the Flood. It's not gonna work. We need to stay focused Spartans. Keep our eyes on the real enemy. And maybe someone needs to tell the White House to play a little less politics and a little more... well you know. 'Halo'.
