Wake Me When You Need Me (To Understand Politics)

Alright Spartans listen up. I'm no suit wearing diplomat and frankly I'd rather be fighting the Covenant. But even I know something's fragged when I hear about folks getting deported without a fair shake. This Homeland Security Secretary Noem thinks the President can just boot people out without due process? Sounds like something the Prophets would pull. 'By your word we shall cleanse this world of the unworthy!' Yeah I've heard that song and dance before.

Habeas Corpus: Not Just Some Fancy Covenant Artifact

Senator Hassan tried to explain what 'habeas corpus' actually means. Apparently it's like your right to say 'Hey hold on I didn't do anything wrong!' before getting chucked into a Phantom. Noem's take? That it's the President's get out of jail free card for deportations. That's about as accurate as a Grunt with a fuel rod cannon. Speaking of Grunts did you hear about the one who tried to argue habeas corpus? He said 'Wort wort wort! I demand a trial!' Didn't work out too well for him.

The 'Precedent' Excuse: Convenient Like a Ghost's Cloaking Device

Now this DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin jumps in to say that Presidents have bent the rules before during 'crises.' Lincoln Grant FDR Bush. She claims they acted first and the legal stuff followed later. Sounds like a desperate attempt to justify a plasma grenade to the face of the Constitution. Just because someone else did something wrong doesn't make it right. Remember Reach? We bent a few rules there but we knew we were playing a dangerous game.

Invasion? More Like a Paper Cut to Freedom!

Then there's this proclamation about a Venezuelan gang 'invading' the U.S. Seriously? An 'invasion' of gang members? I've seen real invasions and they involve fleets of Covenant cruisers glassing entire planets. This feels more like someone's trying to scare everyone into giving up their rights. Speaking of invasions remember when the Flood invaded High Charity? Now THAT was a mess. At least they gave everyone a fair chance to become one of them... Oh wait nevermind.

Supreme Court Saves the Day (For Now)

Thankfully the Supreme Court stepped in and said 'Hold your horses!' Turns out even the government can't just snatch people up and ship them off without giving them a chance to defend themselves. Seven to two they said it wasn't enough time to make their case. I'd call that a win for freedom even if it's just a small one. Still makes you wonder if those two dissenting justices ever faced a firing squad of angry Brutes.

This Isn't Over: Vigilance is Key Spartans!

Look I'm just a soldier but I know that freedom isn't free. It takes vigilance and it takes people standing up for what's right. This whole situation smells worse than a methane swamp on Installation 05. So stay sharp Spartans. Keep an eye on what's happening and don't let anyone not even the President take away your rights without a fight. As they say 'I need a weapon.' And sometimes that weapon is the Constitution.
