Life in Plastic It's NOT Fantastic for Everyone
Hiya Barbies and Kens! It's your girl Barbie here to tackle a topic that's heavier than my Dreamhouse made of solid gold (which by the way is totally eco friendly). The Supreme Court recently made a decision allowing the T rump administration to resume quick deportations of certain immigrants. Now I'm all about a fast paced life – Malibu Barbie doesn’t have time to waste! But when it comes to people's lives and safety 'faster' isn't always 'better,' you know?
Fashionably Late or Just Late on Justice?
This ruling allows the government to deport folks without giving them a chance to argue they might face torture or worse in their home countries. Justice Sotomayor bless her heart called it a "gross abuse" – and honey you KNOW I know a thing or two about abuses. Like when Skipper borrows my vintage convertible without asking. Total drama!
Deportation Planes: Are They Flying First Class?
Assistant Deputy Secretary Tricia McLaughlin tweeted something about deportation planes and 'victory for the safety and security of the American people.' I mean security is important! I have a state of the art security system in my Dreamhouse to keep out those pesky squirrels. But is this really the way to do it? Sounds a little… harsh even for a Monday.
Torture and Death? That's So Last Season!
The head of the legal group representing the immigrants said the ruling 'strips away critical due process protections that have been protecting our class members from torture and death.' Torture and death? Seriously? That's SO not on my list of 'things to do this summer'! I was thinking more along the lines of 'perfect my suntan' and 'organize my closet by color palette.'
Sotomayor: The Real Hero?
Sotomayor pointed out that the government already deported someone to Guatemala who an Immigration Judge thought would be tortured there! And then six more to South Sudan which is apparently too dangerous for even State Department peeps. It's like sending someone to a party dressed in last year's collection... a total disaster. 'In matters of life and death it is best to proceed with caution,' she said. Preach!
Come On SCOTUS Let's Go Party... Responsibly!
Look I'm not saying I have all the answers. I’m just a doll with a fabulous wardrobe and a knack for jet setting. But even I know that everyone deserves a fair shake. Let's hope things get sorted out soon and everyone gets to live their best life – free from torture and unlawful deportations. Because let’s be real that’s what a true Dreamhouse world looks like.
