A News Flash Fit for a Tomb Raider
Right strap in darlings! Lara Croft here reporting live from… well my manor mostly. But the news is out: CNN is shedding about 210 souls – or 6% of their workforce for those of you who prefer numbers. Seems they're having a bit of a reshuffle all in the name of conquering the digital world. One might say they are rearranging the artifacts in their tomb to attract more visitors. As if anyone *really* enjoys navigating endless menus to find actual news these days. It's all about the treasures not the traps or so they say.
New Plans or Ancient Curses?
Apparently CNN's CEO this Mark Thompson chap has grand plans to invest $70 million in digital shenanigans. Sounds like a hefty sum to me – I've found priceless relics for less! They're even conjuring up a 'lifestyle oriented digital product.' What next a CNN branded fedora and a whip? They are even trying to make us pay for their content! One has to wonder if CNN thinks they are selling the elixir of life? The goal is to reach $1 billion in revenue by 2030. Ambitious or perhaps a bit… delusional? I mean wasn’t there that ill fated CNN+ debacle? Some treasures are best left buried wouldn't you agree?
Linear TV? More Like Linear Thinking!
They're shaking up their TV lineup too. More hours for Wolf Blitzer? Oh joy. I do hope he's found a decent hat to keep the sun out; those studios can be brutal. And Jake Tapper's moved to 5 p.m. ET – prime time for a spot of brandy and contemplation if you ask me. I do hope these shifts will bring in the much needed revenue. It is after all a dog eat dog world.
NBC Joins the Chopping Block!
It seems CNN isn't alone in this bloodbath NBC is planning cuts as well. Fewer than 50 souls apparently. One might call it a mild tremor compared to CNN's earthquake but still… it's never a good sign when news organizations start mimicking each other's austerity measures. A sinking ship is a sinking ship after all! As my dear Winston used to say "knowledge is the true path to power," but what good is knowledge if there’s no one left to report it?
Atlanta: The New Tomb of Low Production Costs?
Hold on it gets better! Certain shows might be relocated to Atlanta for cheaper production. Lower costs for better product? Sounds to me like those bean counters are getting desperate. It is never about quality anymore only quantity!
The Truth Behind the Headlines
So what's the real story here? Is it about adapting to the digital age or desperately clinging to relevance? Only time will tell. But remember what I always say "the extraordinary is in what we do not who we are.” Whether they’re streaming services or ancient ruins the truth always lies hidden beneath the surface. Now if you'll excuse me I have a few cryptic clues to decipher… and perhaps a stiff drink to enjoy. Cheerio!
