Great Googly Moogly! Numbers All Over the Place!
Yabba Dabba Doo! Fred Flinstone here reporting live from Bedrock! I gotta tell ya these numbers from Comcast are making my head spin faster than Dino chasing a Bronto burger! Seems like even these big shot modern companies got their own kind of 'slump,' just like when I bowl a 30 at the Water Buffalo Lodge! They say they made more money than expected but lost a bunch of broadband customers. What in the tar pits is broadband anyway? Is that like a new kind of bird I can use for bowling?
Peacock Flat? More Like Dino's Flat Tire!
And get this their streaming service Peacock – not the prettiest bird I ever saw mind you – well it ain't growin' much! They got 36 million subscribers but that's the same as last time. They were hopin' for more like Wilma hopin' I'd bring home a rack of ribs instead of just one! They're blaming competition which I guess is like when Barney tries to beat me at Water Buffalo bowling. Always tryin' to one up your pal eh Barney?
Shares Down! Did They Slip on a Banana Peel?
Talk about a rocky ride! Because Comcast shares went down 11%! Ouch! That's gotta hurt worse than stubbing your toe on a dinosaur bone! All this happened even though they made more money than expected: 96 cents per share instead of 86. Revenue also went up to $31.92 billion instead of $31.64 billion. I don't know what any of that means but it sounds like a lot of clams!
Mobile to the Rescue! Is That a New Bird Call?
But here's the rub folks. They made money off phones! Seems like everyone's got one of those things even the pterodactyls are texting these days! Comcast says they're gonna focus on selling more phone plans and bundling them with this 'broadband' thingamajigger. Sounds like they're tryin' to build a faster car to win the Bedrock Grand Prix. Hope it works!
Say Goodbye to Cable TV? Not if I Can Help It!
And here's the kicker: people are ditchin' cable TV! They lost 311,000 customers! That's like losing all the Water Buffalo Lodge members! What's a guy supposed to do without watching the dinosaur races? On the bright side their movie studio is doin' well thanks to films like 'Kung Fu Panda 4' and 'Despicable Me 4.' So at least we can still watch something while we're chowing down on Bronto burgers!
Peacock's Flying Towards Profits Slowly But Surely
Here's the good news about Peacock. It seems that it is moving toward profitablility these last few quarters and made $1.3 billion in the fourth quarter alone! What is this the stone age version of a phoenix rising out of the ashes? It's still not 'rich' though it lost $372 million. They're banking on sports events like the Olympics and NFL games to bring in more viewers. Seems like even in the modern world people love to watch a good game just like we do down at the bowling alley!
