A New Hope for Hyrule's Waistlines
Greetings citizens of Hyrule! Your Princess Zelda here reporting on a development that might just be as revolutionary as the invention of the paraglider! Eli Lilly not to be confused with our friendly neighborhood fairy has concocted a new pill 'orforglipron,' that promises to help manage weight. Apparently it’s doing quite well and their stocks have soared higher than a Loftwing in a thermal updraft! It seems like we might finally have a way to fight the 'Ganon belly' without having to run laps around Hyrule Field all day.
Mimicking Gut Hormones – Is This Magic?
This 'orforglipron' belongs to a class of drugs that mimic a gut hormone to regulate blood sugar and suppress appetite. In other words it tricks your stomach into thinking you’ve already eaten that whole roast courser! The current top sellers Zepbound and Mounjaro are injectables which can be a bit of a hassle. Who wants to poke themselves when they could be eating a hearty Elixir? A pill however is much more convenient like carrying a fairy in a bottle instead of needing to find one in the woods every time you’re injured.
Safety First Even if You're Facing a Lynel
What's really grabbing everyone's attention is how safe this potion – I mean pill – seems to be. They say it's 'consistent with the established GLP 1 class' and no one has concerns about liver safety. That's excellent news! After all what good is being thinner if you feel like you’ve been cursed by a Malice infused apple? The pill is meant for people with type 2 diabetes so they may lose less weight but data shows they still shed pounds. Investors estimated that patients were to lose about 5% to 6% weight but the trial proved that the participants lost 7.9% of their body weight which is equivalent to 16 pounds. That's like losing the weight of a small Cucco farm!
Novo Nordisk Trembles (Slightly)
Eli Lilly's main competitor Novo Nordisk seems to be sweating more than a Goron in a snowstorm. Novo's stock took a dive because of Lilly's success. Competition is fierce like trying to get the last piece of honey from a Honeycomb Hideout. Drugmakers see these weight loss pills as a big deal which could help patients not willing to take injectables.
Pills: The Future of Weight Loss?
Dan Skovronsky says he is excited about the pill because it's oral and that could help people hesitant to use an injectable and could help those living in areas where there is hard cold chain shipping. It can be used as a maintenance regime. First a patient can start on injectables like Zepbound then at a certain point they can shift over to orforglipron to keep the weight off. It looks like the future of weight loss may very well be swallowed not injected.
The Plot Thickens...
The future of weight loss may be uncertain as Jim Cramer cautioned that Kennedy running HHS has made the regulatory climate toward obesity drugs more uncertain than before. Still based on what we currently know orforglipron looks like a safe and effective weight loss pill that can help the obesity market reach its full commercial potential in the years ahead. Eli Lilly is expected to file orforglipron for obesity approval later this year followed by a submission for Type 2 diabetes in 2026. I'll keep you updated just like I keep an eye on Ganon! May the Triforce be with you!
