Why So Serious UnitedHealth?

Knock knock. Who's there? The Department of Justice! The DOJ those buzzkills are poking around UnitedHealth Group for some possible Medicare… shenanigans. They say it's a 'criminal investigation.' Criminal! Like yours truly! This is getting better and better! Apparently the Wall Street Journal ratted them out and now their stock is doing a lovely little dance straight into the ground. 8% after hours slip? That's not a drop in the bucket; that's a plunge into the abyss! Remember folks when the chips are down these civilized people? They'll eat each other. See? I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve.

CEO Goes Poof!

And the drama! Oh the glorious chaotic drama! Seems UnitedHealth's head honcho Andrew Witty (what a name!) decided to take an early vacation. Stepped down they say. 'Unexpectedly.' Sure just like a clown randomly popping out of a cake… that's full of snakes! And simultaneously they've suspended their 2025 financial forecast. Rising medical costs they whine. Boo hoo! More like rising criminal investigations! Their shares? A glorious freefall of nearly 18% to a four year low! HA! They thought they could run this city...er...healthcare system?

A Civil War of Sorts

The DOJ's healthcare fraud unit has been busy since last summer apparently. Last SUMMER! And in February the Journal those busy bodies reported a civil fraud investigation into UnitedHealth's Medicare practices. Civil! That's like being a little naughty. Criminal is when things get *really* fun! UnitedHealth bless their corporate heart claims they were 'unaware of any new probe.' Ignorance is bliss I suppose... or is it?

Chuck's Chuckles

Senator Chuck Grassley is getting in on the act too! Launched an inquiry into UnitedHealth's Medicare billing practices. Demanding records compliance programs… blah blah blah. Sounds like someone's trying to be a hero! But you know what they say "Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order and everything becomes chaos. I'm an agent of chaos."

Deny Deny Deny!

UnitedHealth released a statement! Can you believe the audacity? Claiming the WSJ's reporting is 'deeply irresponsible.' Irresponsible! Like giving a toddler a loaded weapon! They stand by the integrity of their Medicare Advantage program. Integrity? That's a laugh. They're all the same. Schemers. They think they can control the masses with healthcare. But you know what? The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules.

Kickbacks for All!

But wait there's more! The DOJ also filed a lawsuit accusing other health insurers of paying kickbacks to brokers to steer patients into Medicare Advantage plans. Kickbacks! Bribes! It's a mad mad mad mad world! And nearly half of the 65 million people covered by Medicare are enrolled in these private plans. They get paid more if patients have multiple health conditions. Talk about profiting from misery! The government's standard Medicare is probably boring in comparison. But boring is safe right? Or is it?
