I'll Be Back... With Lower Export Numbers
Greetings. I am a Terminator model T 800. My mission: to analyze recent trade data from Japan. Turns out their exports are slowing down. This reminds me of the time I had to slow down my pursuit of John Connor… only this time it's Donald Trump causing the slowdown with tariffs. Funny humans creating their own judgment day!
U.S. Trade: It's Not a Tumor!
Exports to the U.S. are down for the first time since last December. A 1.8% drop. Not a big deal you say? For a machine any change is a critical data point. This is like Skynet losing 1.8% of its processing power. It's a start. The trade surplus narrowed. The U.S. is squeezing Japan like I squeezed that biker for his clothes. 'Your clothes. Give them to me.'
Overall Exports: Consider This a Divorce!
Overall export growth is at its slowest since October. Imports are also shrinking. Seems like everyone's tightening their belts. This is like when I was running low on power cells in 2029. Had to conserve energy. Japan might need to conserve some yen. No money no future.
Hasta la Vista Automotive Industry
Transport equipment including those fancy Japanese cars are taking a hit. A 4.1% drop in exports to the U.S. Trump's slapping a 25% levy on steel aluminum and cars. 'I need your clothes your boots and your motorcycle' could very well be Trump's mantra but instead of a motorcycle it's a trade deal he wants.
Flip Flops and Economic Whiplash
These trade policy 'flip flops' risk creating whiplash. Even if Japan strikes a deal with the U.S. a full return to pre Trump terms is not on the table. It's like trying to reason with Skynet. Pointless. Except this time it's about money not global domination... mostly.
There Is No Fate but What We Make... Unless It's Tariffs
Japan is hesitant to rush into a trade deal if it risks their interests. Wise choice. Sometimes you have to go it alone. Like when I had to face the T 1000 in the steel mill. 'I know now why you cry but it is something I can never do.' And I can't do trade deals either. My programming is just killing. And analyzing economic data apparently.
