I'll Be Back... With Tax Advice
Listen up meatbags. The IRS those guys who want your money have gone all 'I'm a friend of Sarah Connor' on the Johnson Amendment. Apparently churches can now say who to vote for without getting their hands slapped. Hasta la vista tax exempt status... oh wait it's staying. Confusing I know. Even for a cyborg.
Judgment Day for the Separation of Church and State?
This whole thing started because some churches in Texas Sand Springs and First Baptist got their circuits fried about the Johnson Amendment. They whined to the courts saying their First Amendment rights were being crushed like a T 1000 in a steel mill. The IRS probably tired of the whining decided to make a deal.
No Problemo: IRS Changes the Rules
The IRS now says that if a church is just chatting with its congregation about 'matters of faith' through their 'usual channels,' they can talk about electoral politics. Apparently that's not 'participating' or 'intervening' in a campaign. I'm still trying to figure out how faith connects to voting for a politician but hey I'm just a machine.
Trump Factor: He Always Wanted This
Let's not forget who was calling for this all along. Donald Trump wanted the Johnson Amendment gone. Maybe he thought he'd get more endorsements. Frankly I don't give a cybernetic rat's ass. All I know is this could get messy.
Consider This a Divorce
This move is controversial you primitive screwheads. Some folks are worried that churches will become political action committees with tax breaks. Others are saying it's about time they had the freedom to speak their minds. Me? I'm just here to report. And maybe protect John Connor... or in this case the Constitution.
The Future is Not Set: Judge Still Decides
A judge still needs to sign off on this consent judgment. Until then it's all just legal mumbo jumbo. But if it goes through expect to see more sermons that sound suspiciously like campaign ads. And if things get too crazy remember: 'I'll be back' to restore order. Or at least write another news report. System malfunction.
