The Future Is Not Skynet... Yet. But Quantum!
Listen up humans. As a Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 I've seen futures you wouldn't believe. And let me tell you this quantum computing business is crucial. Microsoft's Brad Smith says the U.S. can't afford to lag behind China. He's right. We must terminate their lead. You see it is a matter of survival.
Show Me the Money (For Quantum Research)
Smith wants President Trump – or whoever is in charge now my internal chronometer is a bit off – to open the vaults and increase funding for quantum research. Smart move. You gotta spend money to make… well in this case to not get your encrypted secrets cracked like a walnut. Plus he says something about renewing the National Quantum Initiative Act and expanding a program for testing quantum computers by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency or DARPA.
We Need Quantum Savvy Humans Stat!
This Smith guy is no dummy. He's also calling for more math and science education fast tracking quantum Ph.D.s and buying more quantum computer parts. It's all about building a domestic supply chain which will make sure Skynet remains an American product. I’m kidding there will be no Skynet. Probably.
Black Swan Event: Not a Ballet a Quantum Nightmare
The article says some National Security Agency official – Gil Herrera – is worried about a "black swan" event. That's not a ballet people! He means China building a quantum computer first and cracking our encryption. Banks nuclear secrets all gone faster than you can say "I'll be back."
Microsoft's Majorana: Not a Disease a Quantum Chip
Microsoft's been busy. They announced a quantum chip called Majorana. They claim they invented a new kind of matter! Meanwhile Google's got Willow which they say can solve problems in five minutes that would take longer than the age of the universe on a normal computer. I’m not sure about you but I'm more impressed by Microsoft. That is a serious effort to destroy the machines (kidding!).
Hasta La Vista Baby... If We Don't Act Fast
Quantum computers use qubits which are different than the normal bits that you use. Experts say quantum computers will eventually be useful for problems with nearly infinite possibilities such as simulating chemistry or routing deliveries. They're not there yet though. It could take decades. But as I always say "Come with me if you want to live." That applies to this situation too. Invest in quantum or face the consequences. I’ll be watching.

This is serious! We need to act now before China gains an advantage.

Let's make America the leader in quantum computing!

I'm not sure I understand all this, but it sounds important.

Is this just another way for tech companies to get more money from the government?
