My Spidey Sense Was Definitely Tingling... After the Fact!
Alright web heads your friendly neighborhood Spider Man here swinging in with some seriously somber news. We're talking Texas sized tragedy after a biblical flash flood ripped through Kerr County. Remember what Uncle Ben said "With great power comes great responsibility?" Well Mother Nature apparently skipped that memo. At least 43 souls gone including 15 kids and 27 young women still missing from Camp Mystic. My spidey sense is usually on point but even I didn't see this tidal wave of sadness coming.
Guadalupe River Gone Wild!
The Guadalupe River decided to audition for a disaster movie swelling 26 feet in just 45 minutes! That's faster than I can change into my Spidey suit! Homes and vehicles were swept away like they were made of cardboard. Governor Abbott's calling for prayers which is cool but I'm thinking maybe a little more proactive flood control wouldn't hurt ya know? As much as I am the praying type I think a real plan of action maybe a big net or a huge spider web would be a better fit.
Camp Mystic's Nightmare!
Camp Mystic sounds more like Camp Tragic right now. A 13 year old named Elinor Lester said the place was “completely destroyed.” Helicopters swooping in kids clinging to ropes... sounds like a scene straight out of a bad dream. And with all those kids this flood was their Goblin. It is my responsibility to figure out what went wrong.
AccuWeather to the Rescue... Sort Of?
AccuWeather's saying they sent out warnings hours before and that the weather channel did the same claiming officials had “ample time to evacuate.” Sounds like someone's playing the blame game. But seriously folks this is the Texas Hill Country supposedly one of the most flash flood prone areas in the U.S. Shouldn't they have a better system in place than hoping for the best? I am going to web sling over there and see what is up.
Helicopters Drones and a Whole Lotta Heartache!
Rescue crews are working around the clock Homeland Security's involved and Coast Guard choppers are buzzing overhead. It's a massive effort but the situation is grim. Families are desperately searching for loved ones clinging to hope in reunification centers. Reminds me of when I lost Aunt May for five minutes at the state fair. Except you know way worse. Hopefully no one gets lost like Peter Parker did in Spiderman 3.
A Century Flood? Or a Century of Neglect?
Rep. Chip Roy's calling it a "once in a century flood," but Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly admits they considered a flood warning system years ago but ditched it because of the cost. Sounds like someone chose saving a few bucks over saving lives. I'm just a friendly neighborhood Spider Man but even I know that's a bad trade. I am sure that Doctor Octopus has some sort of device I can use to find all those lost. "With great power comes great responsibility". Lets do our best!
