Great Responsibility Zero Visibility!

Alright web heads Spidey here reporting live from… well not exactly live. More like typed furiously from my laptop while perched upside down. Why upside down? Because life is weird just like this flash flood that hit central Texas! We're talking mangled trees overturned cars and enough muck to make even Venom say 'Ew gross.' Turns out a biblical level flood ripped through Kerr County leaving a trail of tears and at least 43 people gone including 15 kids. And get this 27 girls from Camp Mystic a Christian summer camp are still missing! 'With great power comes great responsibility,' Uncle Ben always said. But what about when Mother Nature unleashes her own kind of 'power'?

26 Feet of Nope!

The Guadalupe River decided to go full on Niagara Falls rising 26 feet in just 45 minutes! I can barely climb that fast! Homes and vehicles? Gone with the wind… or rather the water. Governor Abbott's all in promising around the clock efforts and declaring a day of prayer. Which is nice but I'm thinking maybe a little Spidey sense beforehand could have helped too. Just sayin'. Gotta admire the Gov's spirit though. As my buddy Deadpool would say “Maximum effort!”

Blame Game: Texas Edition

Of course now everyone's playing the blame game. Did the camps and residents get enough warning? Were they prepared? It's like that time I forgot to set my web shooters to 'humidity mode' and ended up stuck to a flagpole. Nobody's perfect but someone’s gotta answer questions. Seems like AccuWeather and the National Weather Service DID send out warnings which makes this whole thing even sadder. Maybe Aunt May's 'with great power comes great responsibility' applies to weather forecasting too.

Camp Calamity: The Horror Stories

Imagine being a 13 year old at a summer camp when this hits! Elinor Lester described the scene as something straight out of a horror movie. Helicopters ropes water up to your knees… terrifying! Parents are posting photos of missing kids and it's enough to make even this friendly neighborhood Spider Man want to cry into his mask. One 8 year old from Alabama and the director of another camp didn't make it. This is exactly the kind of stuff that keeps me swinging.

Heroes and Helicopters (But Mostly Helicopters)

Amidst all the chaos there are heroes! Over 850 people rescued in 36 hours! People clung to trees hid in attics and somehow some way survived. Homeland Security is on the scene Coast Guard helicopters are buzzing around… it’s a regular superhero convention except you know way more depressing. As for me? I wish I could be in a million places at once to lend a hand. (Note to self: look into cloning technology. For purely altruistic purposes of course!)

The Long Road to Recovery

So what's next? Recovery. A long toilsome task according to Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly. They’re calling the area “Flash Flood Alley,” which is about as welcoming as a Green Goblin convention. They considered a flood warning system but the cost was too high. Seems like a drop in the bucket now doesn’t it? I'm left wondering is there any way to really stop this from happening again? Sigh. I'd better get back to slinging webs and protecting the innocent. Because someone has to.
