Global business travel optimism has plummeted faster than Donkey falling into a dragon's lair, thanks to tariffs and border woes. Shrek investigates (because someone has to!).

Somebody Once Told Me... Things Ain't Looking Good

Alright folks Shrek here reporting live from my swamp (which by the way is a booming tourist destination thanks to its 'unique' aroma). Seems like this 'Global Business Travel Association' has released a report and it's uglier than my reflection in a cracked mirror. Apparently all that sunshine and rainbows folks were feelin' about business travel has gone down the drain faster than a pint of ale at the Poison Apple. Optimism dropped more than half! Half I tell ya! That's like losing half your onions on a good stew – tragic!

Tariffs Borders and a Whole Lotta Donkey Doo!

Now what's causin' all this ruckus? Well they're blamin' it on tariffs tighter border policies and some kinda 'U.S. government policies.' Sounds like a bunch of fancy words for 'somebody messed up.' Even them fancy pants business types in Canada the U.S. and Europe are feelin' gloomy. One in four they say are 'pessimistic.' That's worse than when Donkey tries to sing opera. And Suzanne Neufang the head honcho at that association says she hasn't seen this much confusion in four years. Four years! That's how long it took me to teach Donkey basic hygiene!

Are We There Yet? Less Trips Less Dough!

The survey shows that nearly 30% of these business folk are gonna cut back on employee trips. And another 20%? Well they're so confused they don't even know if things are gonna be alright. 'They're not even confident enough to be able to say things will be fine or things won't be fine,' Neufang says. Seriously? It's worse than when Donkey tries to give directions! And get this about 27% expect to see less money being spent on business trips too. Looks like someone needs to lay off the magic beans!

Donkey's Got a Point: Long Term Worries

Turns out a third of these travel buying types are changing or thinking about changing travel plans to and from the U.S. Some are even movin' events out of the U.S. entirely! Neufang thinks this is a chance for Asia Europe and Latin America to steal the spotlight. 'There are many other opportunities to be a winner in this trade game,' she says. It's like findin' a second onion in yer stew not as good as havin' two to begin with but still somethin'. Business folks are worried 'bout travel costs and visa problems. Sounds like a swamp full of bureaucratic quicksand!

Not All Doom and Gloom? Tell That to Lord Farquaad!

Even with all this nonsense the global business travel market is still expected to hit $1.6 trillion by the end of 2025. But ONLY 'if the last 100 days don't impact negatively everywhere.' By 2028 they think it'll hit $2 trillion. Business travel spendin' is already back to what it was before the pandemic but Neufang says this 'trade war' might actually cause MORE business trips! It's like when I scare off the villagers – more swamp for me! 'You lose a customer you need to find another one,' she says. 'So I think that perspective doesn't mean all doom and gloom for us.' But if them tariffs stay high U.S. travel is gonna get hit hard. But she thinks everywhere else in the world will be fine. Good for them I guess.

Leisure? More Like Less ure!

Now here's the kicker: leisure travel to the U.S. has fallen. International visitor spendin' is expected to drop 4.7% from last year representin' about $8.5 billion for the U.S. travel industry. That's a lot of Shrekels! Looks like folks are startin' to prefer swamp free destinations. Maybe I should start charing tourists to visit my swamp... just kidding!
