What in the Name of Donkey is Going On?

Alright alright settle down ya' bunch of ogreachievers! Shrek here reporting live from... well my swamp. Seems like even folks way beyond Far Far Away are feelin' a bit green these days and not in a good way. I hear tell the global markets have been takin' a right tumble. Not as bad as fallin' into a mud pit but still...unpleasant. We're talkin' trillions of dollars disappearin' faster than a plate of waffles at Donkey's place.

The S&P 500? More Like S&P 5 0 OH NO!

Now I ain't no fancy city slicker with a briefcase but even I can see somethin' ain't right. That S&P 500 thingy? It closed with a market cap of $42.99 trillion after losin' over 5 trillion dollars in two days! That's a lot of shillings even for me! It's like when Donkey eats all my swamp treats in one sitting. Unacceptable! They are saying it is down 17.4% since mid February. Guess even fairy tale endings can have a few hiccups.

The Entire U.S. Stock Market. All of It?

Turns out the whole kit and caboodle of the US stock market ain't doin' much better. Down $10.82 trillion since February! That's enough to buy a whole new swamp and maybe a vacation home in Duloc! Lord Farquaad must be thrilled... NOT! He had it coming. The US stock market is currently at $48.91 trillion. Like Onion it has layers and layers to it.

Global Meltdown or Just a Hiccup?

Now hold on to your pitchforks! The global market that includes 48 countries it also took a bit of a dive though not as deep as Uncle Sam. They're sayin' a 13.7% loss since February. That's still a heap of gold coins but maybe not time to start buildin' your own gingerbread army just yet. Shrek is not panicking you shouldn't either.

Blame America? Maybe...

Here's the kicker: Seems like Europe and Asia are doin' a tad better. The global market WITHOUT the US only dropped 6%. So what's the moral of the story? The US market went up like a runaway chariot and is now leadin' the charge downwards. Kinda like when Donkey tries to fly. I thought he could fly? What else I am going to believe?

Will the World Catch Up? Only Time Will Tell and That's How It Is

So will the rest of the world follow the US down the rabbit hole? Only time will tell. But remember even in the darkest swamp there's always a bit of sunshine peeking through. Or at least a fart from Donkey. And that's how it is. Now get outta my swamp... of money!
