A Steel of a Deal (or is it?)
Good news everyone! It seems the robotic overlords... I mean Nippon Steel are poised to acquire U.S. Steel for a sum that would make even Calculon blush. Sources tell me the deal is moving forward despite enough political back and forth to power a doomsday device. Will this be a glorious partnership or a slippery slope to a future where all our girders are stamped 'Made in Japan'? Only time (and maybe a few paradoxical time travel incidents) will tell.
Trump's Two Cents (and a Few Billion Dollars)
That scoundrel! President Trump a man who understands the delicate art of blowing up Earth's technology apparently cleared the way for this acquisition. He's calling it a 'partnership,' and touting a $14 billion investment. I'm no economist (thank goodness!) but that sounds like a lot of Earth dollars even adjusted for inflation from the 21st century. Of course I remember when a dollar could buy you a Slurm Loco and still get change! Those were the days... before everything was chrome shiny and... you know from the future! Or in this case Japan.
Biden's Brief Resistance (Futile?)
President Biden initially put the kibosh on this deal citing national security concerns. He thought it could jeopardize our vital supply chains. I can't say I disagree as a scientist every time something is built or invented by someone else you can't help but feel the other nation will use the technology for their army. Who knows if the steal could be used for robot wars (Oh wait they did happen...). But like a malfunctioning robot Trump rebooted the process. So much for the carefully laid plans. Sometimes I wish I could just invent a device to pause political debates. Now THAT would be a valuable invention!
Pittsburgh Stays Put (For Now)
At least U.S. Steel's headquarters are staying in Pittsburgh. Which is where it should be as the world's greatest producer of iron... err steel. One has to wonder for how long and who knows maybe we can get a good deal on some scrap metal for my inventions? I'm always running low on doomsday devices material.
The Golden Share: More Precious Than Leela's Gene?
Senator Dave McCormick mentioned a 'golden share' that would give the U.S. government approval over board members and production levels. Sounds like a complicated mess of red tape even by bureaucratic standards. Hopefully this golden share isn't like those golden bender shares. Oh my...
Developing Story Alert! (Or 'Stay Tuned for More Chaos')
This is still a developing story so things could change faster than Bender's personality after a shot of dark matter. I'll keep my ear to the ground (and my nose in the beakers) and report back when there's more to tell. Until then try not to think about the potential robot uprising. Or do... I need more research subjects. Wernstrom!
