A Gravy Train of Lawsuits!

Good news everyone! It seems TransUnion one of those infernal credit reporting agencies has been caught with its pants down faster than Hermes Conrad can limbo. They're settling a class action lawsuit for a whopping $23 million. Apparently they weren't removing disputed 'hard inquiries' from your credit reports. A hard inquiry you see is like a tiny nibbler on your creditworthiness slowly eroding your chances of getting that loan for a solid gold Bender statue.

Those Pesky 502 Letters!

The lawsuit originally filed back in 2018 alleges that TransUnion was sending out these dreadful '502 Letters' instead of actually doing their job. These letters as I understand it are basically saying 'Hey there's a problem with your credit report but good news! Solve it yourself!' Honestly it's enough to make a scientist weep... or invent a doomsday device!

Hard Pulls and Soft Touches

Now you might be asking 'Professor what is this hard inquiry you speak of?' Well buckle up buttercup! There are two types of credit inquiries: soft and hard. A soft inquiry is like a gentle caress triggered when you're prequalified for a credit card. A hard inquiry on the other hand is more like a full body cavity search a deep dive into your financial history that can actually lower your credit score. And that's bad m'kay?

Who Gets the Spoils?

So who gets a piece of this sweet sweet settlement pie? Well if you disputed a hard inquiry on your TransUnion credit report and received one of those cursed '502 Letters' between December 5 2016 and January 31 2025 you're in the running! You might even get as much as $160! Enough to buy a whole lot of Slurm!

Claim Your Loot!

If you're eligible you'll automatically get a minimum payout of $20 to $30. But if you believe you've suffered specific financial harm because of this whole kerfuffle (maybe you were denied a loan or a credit card) you can file a claim for more! Just head to the class action settlement website fill out the form by June 24 2025. Remember ignorance is no excuse! Unless you are a donkey.

Patience Young Padawan

As for when you'll see that sweet sweet cash? Payments are expected to be distributed within 90 days of the final hearing on July 21 2025. But as any good scientist knows the future is uncertain! Appeals and injunctions might delay things. But don't worry just like my inventions it'll eventually come... probably with a few unexpected explosions along the way!
