Bond Denis Bond
Right then darlings! Word on the street – or should I say from Amazon’s shadowy headquarters – is that Denis Villeneuve he of 'Dune' and 'Blade Runner 2049' fame is taking over the next James Bond flick. Seems like 007 is about to get a serious dose of existential angst with his martinis. I wonder if he'll be trading in his Aston Martin for a sandworm? One never knows what to expect does one?
Sacred Territory Darling
Villeneuve himself declared Bond to be 'sacred territory.' Well isn’t that just precious? I’ve raided a few sacred territories myself and let me tell you they’re usually booby trapped. Though instead of trip wires I expect this “sacred territory” will be filled with meticulous world building and brooding stares. Good luck with that Mr. Bond. You’re going to need it.
From Craig to…Who?
And let’s not forget the big question: who’s filling Daniel Craig’s rather dashing shoes? The franchise hasn’t named a new lead actor following Daniel Craig’s departure after "No Time to Die" in 2021 which earned nearly $800 million in global box office collections. Whoever it is they better be ready to run jump and occasionally blow things up with panache. And maybe brush up on their philosophical musings. You know just in case Villeneuve gets too carried away.
Amazon's New Toy
This will be the first Bond movie under Amazon's MGM Studios. Makes you wonder if Bond will be battling Jeff Bezos in the sequel. I bet he'd have a secret lair on the moon guarded by drones and algorithms. Now *that's* a villain worthy of my attention.
The Wilson and Broccoli Cabal
Of course longtime rights holders Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are still in the mix. So while we might get some fancy Villeneuve ian flair expect plenty of classic Bond tropes too. Gadgets girls and globe trotting adventures. Hopefully they won’t tone down the explosions. I do so love a good explosion don’t you?
Producers with Panache
With Amy Pascal and David Heyman also producing this film has a lot of big players at the helm. I hope they all play nice. Last thing we need is a Bond film where the real drama is behind the scenes. Though knowing Hollywood that might be more exciting than the actual movie. Right then time to dust off my twin pistols. Just in case. 'I make my own luck,' after all.
