Another Tomb Raider Another Legal Battle

Right so apparently even Mickey Mouse is getting litigious. Disney and Universal – titans clashing naturally – have slapped Midjourney this AI image thingamajig with a copyright infringement lawsuit. Seems they're not too pleased with the AI's ability to churn out images of Star Wars characters Simpsons and all sorts of other familiar faces. It's like raiding a tomb only instead of ancient artifacts it's intellectual property! One might say "We all make choices in life. Some of us just have to face the consequences." and it seems Midjourney is facing those consequences.

From Pixels to Plagiarism: A Raiders Opinion

Now I've raided my share of tombs dodged a few booby traps and even outsmarted a double crossing archaeologist or two. But this AI business? It's a whole new level of complex! Apparently these studios sent polite little letters asking Midjourney to stop but the AI company ignored them like a Peruvian temple guardian ignores common sense. So they're taking it to court. Honestly sometimes I think lawyers are more dangerous than any ancient curse.

AI Generated Avengers Assemble… In Court!

The lawsuit is overflowing with examples: AI generated Cars Toy Story Shrek The Avengers and those… those… Minions! I'm no legal expert but even I can see how creating knock off versions of iconic characters could ruffle some feathers. They are saying that Midjourney is threatening to "upend the bedrock incentives of U.S. copyright law.". A bold move from Disney and Universal but I'm sure it will be an adventure. Now where did I put my dual pistols?

The Stakes Are High (As Always)

The big bosses are getting involved too. Kimberley Harris some high ranking NBCUniversal exec is banging on about protecting artists and investment. Horacio Gutierrez from Disney is calling it 'piracy'. It's like the time I found that priceless diamond only to have some shady corporation try to steal it. But this time the stakes are even higher than my personal bank account. As always it will be a fun ride "It's not the years honey it's the mileage."

Bottomless Pit of Plagiarism: Sounds Familiar

Disney and Universal are calling Midjourney a "bottomless pit of plagiarism". Which let's be honest sounds like a description of some of the ancient tombs I've explored. Except instead of copyright infringement it's usually filled with venomous snakes and crumbling infrastructure. Still the principle is the same: don't take what isn't yours!

Onwards to Court!

So there you have it. Disney and Universal versus AI. It's a battle for the ages or at least for this legal age. I'll be keeping an eye on this one. After all if AI can start copying intellectual property what's stopping it from copying my tomb raiding techniques? Now if you'll excuse me I have a date with a mysterious map and a potentially booby trapped temple. “I take what isn’t mine and I don’t even say thank you.”
